Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Director may be responsible for entire organization or for one or more major segments of a larger organization. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compensation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Compensation & Benefits Overview:

    The starting salary for this position is $50,000 / year, with incentives and bonus opportunities dependent on performance and experience.

    A day in the life:

    • Help to develop and evaluate the compensation programs that align with top management strategy
    • Help to organize and administer all compensation projects and initiatives.
    • Participate in salary surveys, and analyze data from survey sources to determine competitiveness both internally and externally: Mercer, Towers Watson, PayScale, Salary.com, etc.
    • Price new jobs utilizing applicable market data
    • Provide customer support to both internal customers (HR) and external customers (employees or management)
    • Stay current on changing Federal and State regulations and legislation that may affect employee compensation or benefits.
    • Design and prepare ad hoc compensation and budget-related reports for managers.
    • Approve new title creation by assigning title, FLSA exemption status, and EEO classification and collaborate with HRIS to maintain current job titles in payroll system (UKG).
    • Help managers in preparation of merit increases, incentive programs and budgeting.
    • Review and monitor employee pay and recommend reviews if necessary.
    • Serve as the primary or secondary contact for vendors and third-party administrators.
    • Maintain records and procedures for the administration processes of the role.
    • Stay current on changing Federal and State regulations and legislation that may affect employee experience.

    Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

    • Must be self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
    • Exhibit solid organizational skills and an ability to multitask
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Possess strong aptitude for navigating HR information systems (HRIS) to retrieve data, preferably UKG.
    • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Excel program, specifically functions and formulas such as v-lookup, if then, percentile, etc.
    • Communicates clearly and effectively with strong attention to detail
    • Ability to successfully establish and maintain relationships with vendor partners and coworkers
    • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner with discretion
    • Must possess aptitude for data analysis related to compensation
    • Knowledge of employment laws and compliance concerns related to Human Resources, especially in regards to compensation
    • Knowledge of compensation best practices and market trends

    Education and Experience 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or similar field preferred
    • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 8 years of applicable job experience required
    • 2 - 5 years of experience in Human Resources or another applicable field is required
    • Experience in compensation is preferred
    • PHR, CCP, or CEBS certification preferred
    • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • The primary work environment for this position is an office.
    • The physical demands for this position include light lifting, pushing, reaching, seeing (with a focus on reading and acuity), sitting more than 50% of the time, standing, stooping, talking, turning, and walking.
    • Nights spent away from home are less than 10%.
