    The Work You'll Do:

As Director of Product Documentation, you’ll be responsible for the vision and execution of all product documentation at Sovos, including *of course* product documentation as well as API documentation, implementation guides and help centers. We need a proven leader to define and quickly begin executing on a modern content ecosystem that can deliver targeted audience-appropriate content. Our goal is to help customers, employees and partners to be successful with Sovos products and content is critical to this mission.

In this role, you’ll define the vision, strategy and roadmap, as well as execute and measure impact. You’ll lead technical writers across all Sovos products, determining resourcing and establishing priorities. You’ll advocate for best practices in product documentation, tooling, and developer relations. To help your teams succeed, you’ll build relationships both inside our Product organization with engineers, product managers, and leadership as well as outside our Product organization with our Support, Sales Engineering, Training, and other teams.

This is an exciting and unique role for someone who is ready to lead, is an absolute expert in product documentation and is looking to make a significant impact.

    More specifically you will:

    • Establish and maintain an industry-standard product documentation practice: Introduce the necessary tools, identify hiring needs, create long and short-term strategies with roadmaps and develop processes.
    • Lead a growing team of 10-20 writers across a robust product portfolio.
    • Help define and refine localization efforts across multiple languages.
    • Develop meaningful relationships with customer-facing teams like Support, Sales Engineering, and Solutions Architecture to ensure our product documentation meets their evolving needs.
    • Celebrate successes and maintain the collaborative and supportive culture of our high-performing tech writing team.
    • Lead the product documentation function to maturity. Besides defining the necessary tools, people, and processes, you’ll advocate for documentation as a critical component of delivering our products and demonstrate the value of documentation to the business
    • Collaborate effectively and tactfully with stakeholders in a globally distributed organization.
    • This is a wonderful opportunity to leave your mark as a documentation expert and to showcase your experience, expertise, and skills. You’ll also have the chance to contribute to the professional growth of your team by providing training and mentoring.

    What We Ask From You:

    • Background working in a people-leader, preferably in a SaaS software company
    • Understanding of best practices for documentation aimed at a technical, expert audience
    • Demonstrable experience of setting, meeting and exceeding OKRs and related metrics
    • A passion for documentation as part of the overall experience of using a software product
    • Excellent skills in communication, process building, and navigating organizational change gained in a software engineering or data analytics environment
    • Ability to engage with both managers of individual contributors and company leadership, speaking to both technical and business interests
    • Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background and drug screening before hire

    Nice to have:

    • Track record of bringing a documentation practice to scale
    • Experience in enterprise SaaS in one of these industries: FinTech, Pharma, Healthcare, Banking or Insurance
    • Experience with connecting tech writing to developer relations
