    Description of Work Unit
    The C. Wayne McIlwraith Translational Medicine Institute (TMI) is operated under the Department of Clinical Science (College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences) at Colorado State University (CSU). The Institute provides a safe, secure, state of the art facility for faculty, scientists and staff for collaborative efforts in the area of research, entrepreneurial business development and continuing medical education aligned to the institute’s mission and vision. The TMI is a 130,000 sq. ft. building that opened in December 2018. This facility has extensive capabilities to engage in basic and clinical research, experimental surgical procedures, hands-on continuing education laboratories, didactic lectures, imaging, 3D bioprinting, as well as cGMP space, food service, and administrative space.

    Position Summary
    Full-time, job share with variable hours, available M – F and rotating weekends from approximately 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. (no holidays). Schedule will be determined upon further discussion, but could be either three to four 10-hour days/week OR five to seven 5 to 6 hour days/week.

    The CSUVetCE team @ TMI seeks to provide an unparalleled Continuing Education (CE) experience every day…something that we refer to as “CE Elevated”. We believe that people, animals and the planet can be improved when inspired learners, engaged educators and relevant learning experiences collide; that is the purpose, the passion and the why behind our quest to provide CE Elevated experiences.

    We host up to 75 courses each year including a wide variety of small animal, equine and human continuing medical education courses to graduate veterinarians, certified technicians and medical professionals throughout the year. We are a small, but rapidly growing group and now is a great time to jump aboard the CSUVetCE team for the right person. In our busy times, our team can have a series of 7-day work weeks. Responsibilities for CE lab support will be divided between the CE Lab Coordinator, the CE Lab Assistant (this position) and student hourly employees and volunteers.

    We’re seeking a motivated, intelligent, responsible, customer-centric and skilled technician to assist with CE lab set up and support, specimen prep, live animal support, inventory/ordering, basic data entry/record keeping, scheduling, instrument cleaning/sterilization, shipping/receiving, and general cleaning/laundry. Other duties may include hospitality support. The ideal candidate knows how to work independently as well as in a team and can direct and train a group of student hourly employees/volunteers and enjoys watching them grow under their guidance and leadership. Strong interpersonal skills will help this individual to welcome and work with course participants, CE instructors and external sponsors during CE wet labs. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and written/oral communication skills are needed.

    • B.A./B.S. in a related field
    • Demonstrated experience working in the veterinary medical field performing many of the essential job duties required for this position
    • Experience in veterinary anesthesia
    • Experience handling small/large animals (horses, pigs, and dogs)
    OR
    • Associate degree in a related discipline plus 2 years of relevant, specialized training/experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of:
      • Demonstrated experience working in the veterinary medical field performing many of the essential job duties required for this position
      • Experience in veterinary anesthesia
      • Experience handling small/large animals (horses, pigs, and dogs)
    OR
    • High School Diploma (or GED) plus 4 years of relevant, specialized training/ experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of:
      • Demonstrated experience working in the veterinary medical field performing many of the essential job duties required for this position
      • Experience in veterinary anesthesia
      • Experience handling small/large animals (horses, pigs, and dogs)
    • PLUS
      • Willingness to work with animal and human cadavers
      • Willingness/ ability to work after hours or weekends as continuing education courses dictate
      • Must be able to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds and push heavy carts
      • Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel
      • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and customer service
      • Exemplary organizational and time management skills

    Preferred Job Qualifications
    • CVT, LATG
    • Previous experience with animal care is a plus
    • Can perform x-rays and fluoroscopy; Experience in surgical OR settings
    • Must be a self-starter and work with minimal oversight.

    • Coordinating anesthesia as needed for specific courses
    • Independently handle partner training/education events such as Arthrex training days, Storz training days, etc.
