  • JOB GOAL: To prepare persons to perform safely, knowledgeably and ethically as practical nurses.RESPONSIBILITIES: Organize, plan, implement and evaluate assigned nursing courses in cooperation with the other nursing faculty utilizing the framework provided by the program. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures for the Practical Nursing Program. Participate in development, implementation and evaluation of contractual agreements with selected clinical agencies. Adhere to clinical agency policies and/or contractual agreements regarding student and faculty practice Complete faculty orientation program for clinical agencies to which assigned.

    Prepares, implements, and evaluates course outlines, bibliographies, media and other teaching materials in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the program. Hold periodic meetings with representatives of each cooperating agency to evaluate the experience. Such meetings shall be held at least once each year. Submit written agency minutes which shall be retained on file each term.

    Serve on the Faculty Organization Standing Committees: Admission, Promotion and Curriculum Committees. Attend monthly department meetings and serve as recording secretary on a rotating basis. Carry out school policies as directed by administration. Inform the Director of Nursing of student behavior problems.

    Counsel students regarding academic and/or clinical progress. Develop remediation plans as outlined in the student handbook as soon as practical to allow the student ample opportunity for success. Attend and participate in Program Advisory Committee meetings. Recruit Industry Partners to the advisory board.

    Maintain and inventory all lab equipment and supplies with respect to quality, safety and housekeeping. Maintain attendance and clinical records for assigned students and submit grades and clinical evaluations to the student gradebooks. Provide weekly extra help and make-up work throughout the program. Supervise assigned students clinical experiences and assist with plans for rotation of students through clinical experiences.

    Assist with the orientation of new faculty to the philosophy and objectives of the program. Continue to improve expertise in nursing and teaching through any single one or combination of the following: Academic study, clinical practice and other appropriate professional development learning activities. Establish a collaborative relationship with school staff and health care agencies. Assist in the preparation of the program budget.

    Participate in school-wide committees. Including but not limited to professional development activities, staff meetings, and bargaining unit meetings. Analyze and evaluate nursing department program outcomes and practices for congruency with stated program goals outlined in the systematic evaluation plan as assigned. Develop, plan, evaluate, maintain, and deliver course curriculum to students through varied instruction in order to prepare students to become safe, competent nurses.

    Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent-Director. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Walk long distances, stand for extended periods of time, sustain repetitive movement, and maintain physical tolerance (stand/walk/work on your feet for 8-12 hours at a time with minimal breaks).
