Cooking Instructors and Summer Camp Cooking Staff Positions

The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District is hiring cooking instructors for youth and adult programming, along with upcoming Summer camp cooking staff opportunities. Classes and camps are attended by the community at large, encompassing all ages, abilities, backgrounds, and interests. We seek individuals with the ability to support the needs of individuals as well as manage group dynamics.
Qualifications (Common to All Positions)
Applicants should have a strong background in cooking, previous experience in teaching or leading cooking classes, excellent organizational skills, and effective communication abilities.
Cooking Instructor (Part-time, Year-Round)
Responsibilities
As the Cooking Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in leading youth and adult programming, creating a community-oriented and safety-conscious environment.
Qualifications (Varied by Instructor Level)
- Instructor I: No teaching experience is required for this entry-level position. We are seeking individuals who love working with people of all ages and abilities, can work inside and outside, and are at least 16 years of age.
Pay rate range: $17.90 – $19.00 hourly, depending on experience
- Instructor II: For this position, a minimum of 1 year of experience in leading and instructing general classes is required. Applicants should be at least 16 years of age.
Pay rate range: $19.51 – $21.98 hourly, depending on experience
- Instructor III: Candidates must have over 1 year of experience and specialized training in the assigned program area. Applicants should be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
Pay rate range: $21.53 – $24.24 hourly, depending on experience
- Instructor IV: For this advanced position, we require over two (2) years of experience in the specialty area. Educational/Training qualifications include completion of the twelfth grade plus additional specialized training equivalent to four years of college.
Pay rate range: $30.29 – $34.09 hourly, depending on experience
Summer Camp Cooking Staff (Seasonal & Part-time)Positions and Responsibilities
- Camp Recreation Assistant: The cooking camp recreation assistant is responsible for assisting with the planning and instruction of general and/or specialized activities for program participants.
Pay rate range: $17.65 – $18.18 hourly, depending on experience
- Camp Assistant Director: The Camp Assistant Director is responsible for the development and implementation of assigned cooking programs, classes or activities. Incumbents in this job classification work independently, within established guidelines, to develop, coordinate, supervise and instruct the day-to-day activities of assigned program area and provide lead direction to assigned part-time staff and/or volunteers.
Pay rate range: $18.60 – $20.95 hourly, depending on experience
- Camp Director: As the Cooking Camp Director, you will lead the summer camp's culinary program, managing and coordinating all aspects of cooking camps and classes. Your role is responsible for the development and implementation of assigned recreation programs. Incumbents in this job classification work independently, within established guidelines, to develop, coordinate, supervise, and instruct the day-to-day activities of assigned program areas and provide lead direction to assigned part-time staff and volunteers.
Pay rate range: $20.51 – $23.08 hourly, depending on experience

Scheduling
Hours vary and are flexible throughout the week. Part-time employees may be scheduled 29 hours or less per week, year-round. Seasonal employees may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week for a maximum duration of 6 consecutive months. Part-time employees are scheduled variable hours and may work less than 1,560 hours per year.
The kitchen at Garden Home is available for classes on weekdays from 3:30PM to 8:00PM and Saturdays from 9:00AM to 12:00pm noon. We are seeking staff with availability to work within this range of hours. Summer camp schedules will be released soon.
