Correctional Officer, Sr. enforces rules and regulations in a prison, jail or other holding facility. Presides over prisoners awaiting trial or those who have been convicted of a crime. Being a Correctional Officer, Sr. oversees prisoner conduct and safety. Supervises prisoners during meals, recreation, work and other daily activities. Additionally, Correctional Officer, Sr. documents violations and takes appropriate disciplinary actions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Firearms Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Correctional Officer, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Pay rate: $13.00 per hour

    Work schedule: Full-time; 12-hour shift (day & night shifts available)

    Position summary: Correctional officers are responsible for the custody and discipline of inmates in the facility in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC),and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives.

    Essential responsibilities:

    • Search for contraband and provide security.
    • Count, feed and supervise inmates in housing, work and other areas.
    • Provide custody and security of inmates, including observation of inmates.
    • Perform security of various assigned areas.
    • Read, review and properly apply information found in inmate records which is related to the inmates' health and safety and to the security of the facility,
    • Prepare and maintain records, forms and reports.
    • It is expected that the incumbent will work overtime, when directed to do so.
    • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
    • Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

    Education requirements:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
    • A valid driver license in the state of Mississippi or Alabama with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management.
    • Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
