The Lexington Police Department is looking for qualified individuals to work as Per-Diem Crossing Guard
Assistants. On an intermittent and temporary basis, the Town of Lexington will staff vacant crossing
locations with employees who are not members of the bargaining unit. These employees will be trained
solely to cross students. It is the intent that these Crossing Assistants will work per-diem when an
assigned crossing location is vacant due to resignation, illness, leave or other circumstance and no other
Crossing Guard or Floater is available to staff it.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Punctual when reporting to an assigned school crossing.
2. To be attentive and to cross children in a safe manner.
3. To report any unsafe condition that could endanger the safety of the school children.
4. To comply with the regulations required by the Department.
5. No Crossing Guard Assistant shall enforce criminal or motor vehicle laws.
Must be able to stand outdoors for long periods of time in a variety of weather conditions (rain, sleet,
snow, heat).
Proper safety equipment (stop sign, safety vest and white gloves) will be supplied.
