Curriculum Manager manages the design and development of training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, customers, or other learners. Oversees skill assessments and collects input to identify training or development needs, goals, gaps, and requirements. Being a Curriculum Manager consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Develops curricula supporting defined competency models or skill frameworks. Additionally, Curriculum Manager provides outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Participates in the selection of software or collaboration tools used for training. Establishes metrics used to evaluate training effectiveness and analyzes outcomes to determine ROI and recommend changes to programs. May select and manage vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Curriculum Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Curriculum Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • CURRICULUM, DATA, AND ASSESSMENT MANAGER- SCIENCEJob Description: SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION: The Curriculum, Assessment, and Data Manager for Science will provide proactive, collaborative leadership to support the execution of key strategic initiatives related to science. Will oversee the creation and management of a system wide science initiative aimed at developing staff to ensure District goals are met.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCurriculum: Participate in the development and evaluation of new curriculum. Identify and lead a team of administrators and teachers who will assist in curriculum development. Conduct research and collaborate with faculty and staff in the design and development of new curriculum.

    Coordinate the review/assessment of current curriculum to ensure that course/program is meeting intended grade level curriculum standards. Use evaluations and data to make recommendations for how to improve and edit curricula on an annual basis through the creation of a curriculum revision cycle. Develop a five year plan of curriculum development including the replacement of outdated materials.Assessment: Collaborate to define and execute testing calendar and polices. Develop a plan to support test administration and data collections for all schools.

    Manage implementation and administration of all state, district, and school common assessments. Partner with school leadership teams to support each schools interim assessment protocols to analyze data, and support school leaders in identifying areas for improvement; Collect and disseminate best practices, external resources in the areas of benchmark and unit assessment data. Work with school and district leadership to identify key metrics to monitor district, school and student progress to allow for informed decision making. Develop, manage and report on staff, student and community surveys.Analysis and Reporting: Conduct statistical analysis of student achievement data and school information and maintain data warehouse of all student assessment scores (state, district and school data and others as identified).

    Provide timely and clear reports on data analyzed. Manage the development and design of data dashboards and other regular reports or analysis that answer questions for key stakeholders, provide insight on student, school and district performance trends and patterns; and informs discussions and strategic decisions at the district and school levels, (e.g. aggregate and subgroup trends). Create a public package of achievement and other student-level data and provide a clear understanding of what the data means to critical audiences (School Committee, families and community, foundations, etc.) working with the Community Relations Manager to message the information in a public-friendly way Assess and recommend data software solutions, evaluate implementation of systems, technologies and business practices related to data management.

    Serve as the primary contact for all external data requests and provide needed data to Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, and Principals.Data Management: Assist district administrators in preparing and administering reports to comply with federal and state requirements.Coaching and Development: Collaborate with Deputy Superintendent and other Office of Instruction leaders to conduct significant professional development around new initiatives in the areas of curriculum, data management and analytics. Champion key findings from analysis and develop implementation models for district and school leaders to act upon data results. Serve as Office of Instruction point of contact for building based administrationJob Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of current educational principles, best practices and procedures in development and implementation of science curriculum, instruction, and assessment K-12. Knowledge of local, state and national standards and assessments and ability to support their application, development and implementation.

    Knowledge of use of technology as an educational tool to support learning, multicultural instructional materials, and experience teaching across disciplines and with diverse populations. Ability to provide leadership for professional development building capacity in science instruction. Ability to monitor the implementation of strategic initiatives and support the districts goals through school visits, data analysis, and collaboration with other NBPS offices. Ability to effectively collaborate with staff, parents, and state and national colleagues to implement and monitor the strategic plan.

    Possess excellent planning, organization, management, communications (oral and written) and human relations skills. Ability to prepare documents and presentations for a variety of audiences about the science program. Have clear and demonstrated dedication to urban education and to the belief that all students can learn in order to develop the mission of educational excellence in New Bedford Public Schools. Experience in curriculum development, quantitative data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting with strong focus on data quality and continuous improvement processes.

    Expertise with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; and in evaluating and learning new computer programs and familiarity with both Mac and PC operating environments. Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative. Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to ones work. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree required and Masters degree desired from accredited college or university.

    Course work in educational leadership or administration. Minimum seven years combined experience as a classroom teacher and/or successful recent leadership experience in assessing program needs, instructional planning, assessment development, and professional development. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Meet appropriate DESE Administrator requirements, or ability to do so PHYSICAL DEMANDS (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing): NONE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (Frequent overtime or night work required, etc.): Some extended day work required. Occasional attendance at evening meetings (i.e., School Committee, PTA, and community).
