Under the supervision of the Camp Directors, the curriculum specialist is responsible for planning and implementing curriculum for a specific specialty area. They must support their fellow camp staff in implementing this curriculum, identifying, and meeting camper needs, leading, and guiding a group of campers to achieve success in their specialty area of focus.

All of this must be accomplished while maintaining YMCA day camp standards and DPH standards. The Camp Curriculum Specialist will work closely with Camp Leadership in the weeks leading up to Camp Opening to define a complete, age-appropriate rotation of activities, aligning with weekly camp themes and the YMCA’s core values.

Qualifications:

• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications
• Desire and Ability to work with children indoors and outdoors
• Ability to assist in teaching an activity
• Ability to relate to one’s peer group
• Good character, integrity, and adaptability
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
• High School graduate or equivalent and at least 18 years of age

Camp Greendale will run for 9 weeks between the dates of 6/24/2024 to 8/23/2024. The camp day will run from 7:30am-6:00pm Monday through Friday.

Work environment and physical demands:

• Must be able to supervise children by sight and sound.
• Must be able to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e.: aggressive behavior, unsafe play).
• Must remain calm, objective, and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e.: crying or upset child, upset parent or staff).
• Must be flexible and willing to adjust to change.’
• Must be able to move around the room to assist and supervise children.
• Must be able to develop and foster cooperative relationships.
• While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to use hands, fingers and arms, as well as, be able to talk and hear.
• The incumbent is required to be able to move from program site to branch and is required to enter all environments including program space, locker rooms, pool areas, swim areas and other program areas.

Schedule: M-F 8:30am-4:30pm, additional hours available.

Job Type: Summer Seasonal

Pay: $17.00/hour for newly hired and $17.50/hour for returning Curriculum Specialist that worked last year. Plus access to YMCA facilities to all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave.
