Cytogenetic Technologist jobs in Alabama
Cytogenetic Technologist performs microscopic analysis for cytogenetic studies on biological specimens. Analyzes chromosomes for prenatal diagnosis, congenital birth defects, fertility problems and hematological disorders. Being a Cytogenetic Technologist is responsible for harvesting cells, image analysis, and results reporting. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Cytogenetic Technologist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Provides standard or specialized techniques for evaluation of both constitutional and somatic chromosome abnormalities on a variety of specimen types including, but not limited to, amniotic fluids, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), tissue, blood and/or bone marrow. Analysis may include traditional cytogenetic techniques as well as molecular cytogenetics by FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) and/or array CGH (array comparative genomic hybridization). Documents analysis, maintains records and performs routine maintenance and monitoring of equipment. Responds to the unique needs of all patients ages newborn through geriatric.Hourly Range: $15.00-$24.40
Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
