Datacenter Security Team provides physical security solutions to protect AWS personnel, AWS facilities and information of our customers.

    For the Cluster Security Manager (CSM) role the AWS Datacenter Operations Physical Security team is looking for a forward thinking, results-oriented, innovative and inspirational leader with proven results building high performing teams. The candidate will have the ability to develop strategy, execute and lead data center (DC) security operations across multiple sites.

    As a Cluster Security Manager, you will be expected to implement and verify compliance with security procedures, standards and policies; while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of physical security at our facilities. You will champion new initiatives for the physical security team and oversee implementation in coordination with multiple business partner teams. The candidate will have experience leading cross-functional teams, writing security strategies, driving processes to achieve industry-leading security and driving down costs through process improvement and technology enhancement.

    You will be expected to operate with autonomy, complete discretion, and your work will require significant creativity and judgment. The ideal candidate will be confident, decisive, influential and an innovative leader who can communicate a compelling and comprehensive set of outcomes to be achieved. You will have the presence and influence to define and enforce high standards for programs you lead, implement and monitor at all levels. You must be comfortable with ambiguity, and be able to define structure, processes and standards where none yet exist. You will deliver on the physical security mission and tenets; mitigating risk and balancing tradeoffs in cost, efficiency and operational challenges.

    Responsibilities:
    • Build trust, establish and maintain customer relationship with data center business partners to execute a comprehensive strategy that enhances security, while enabling our partners to build customer capacity.
    • Responsible for planning, developing and implementing security plans and security programs such as Emergency Response and Crisis Management, Physical Security, Incident Management, while coordinating site investigations with the Global Intelligence and Investigative team.
    • Maintains an extensive knowledge of complex industry trends, current security issues and security technology, and updates management on risk and threats against AWS employees and infrastructure.
    • Responsible for performing continual risk analysis for the data center sites, particularly with respect to level of crime, terrorism, workplace violence, and threats from natural and man-made disasters.
    • Responsible for providing leadership and best practices on security policy and practices to on-site data center management.
    • Looks around corners and identifies vulnerabilities early and designs and implements a strategy to close existing or emerging security gaps and seams.
    • Provides leadership and clear guidance and direction to AWS Data Center staff as well as contract security staff to achieve current and long-range strategic security program objectives.
    • Supports regional and global security leadership in conducting investigations of significant threats and/or the loss or misappropriation of assets.
    • Develops and implements security standards and procedures for all contract site security coordinators.
    • Liaisons with local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies for the locations of the Data Centers.
    • 25% travel required both domestic and international.
    This role requires the ability to adapt to a dynamic operational environment, driven by changing customer requirements, build schedule changes, security vendor commitments, and evolving security threats. The incumbent must be able to work at pace and adjusting priorities, while relying on established knowledge and experience in physical security, while understanding and applying the confluence and interplay between physical and logical data protection. Must have the ability to interact with demanding customers and meet short notice customer driven deadlines.

    The incumbent ensures the security team is set up for success by promulgating clear guidance and direction, providing proper resources, and supporting employee career development. Additionally, the role requires continuous coordination with team stakeholders in Operations, HR, Logistics, Design and Engineering, and Construction, to ensure security services are synchronized with other business process. The role requires a strong commitment to hiring in order to find the right candidate for demanding roles, while coping with a tight labor market.
