Dean of Communications manages administrative functions of the college of communications. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Communications leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Communications requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. The Highlights:
Reporting to the Dean of the Driehaus College of Business (DCOB), the Assistant Dean for Marketing and Communications develops, directs and executes internal and external communications and marketing strategies that shape the college’s brand image and encourage engagement among faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and industry allies. The Assistant Dean directs a two-person college marketing & communication team consisting of a Content Producer and a Website & Social Content Editor.
What You'll Do:Dean communications strategy and execution
- Provide strategic communications and marketing counsel to the Dean. Draft speaking remarks, talking points, presentation materials, reports, and messages from the Dean that communicate the college’s vision, strategic direction, and achievements to a wide range of internal and external audiences.
Marketing strategy and execution
- Collaborate with different stakeholders to develop marketing strategies that enhance the college’s brand among various constituents.
Advisory Council communications strategy and execution
- Collaborate with the Dean, advancement officers, and DCOB Advisory Council (BAC) leadership on developing and executing communications strategies that engage members and support council initiatives.
Website and social media content strategy
- Collaborate with college and university stakeholders on strategy development and direct the college’s Website & Social Content Editor in executing content strategy for DCOB’s website, business.depaul.edu, and college-wide social media platforms.
Newsletter and blog strategy
- Serve as editor-in-chief of the business college’s semi-annual, web-based alumni magazine Business Exchange, and chair the Business Exchange editorial board. Manage the editorial process from conception to delivery; assign, write, and edit stories and arrange photography; collaborate with DePaul’s Alumni Relations on distribution.
- Provide strategy oversight for the Content Producer, who serves as editor and manages newsletter and blog platforms that include General Journal, the School of Accountancy & MIS’s newsletter, and Inside Kellstadt, a blog for prospective graduate business students.
Brand Ambassador
- Guide best practices and brand standards to college departments and centers to empower them to produce effective, high-quality, DePaul brand-compliant communications and marketing for their events and initiatives.
Print Publications
- At the request of the Dean, write, edit, direct designers, and project manage the production of print marketing materials such as fact sheets, brochures, and postcards about the college and its distinctions.
Manages a small DCOB marketing & communications budget.
What You'll Need:
- At least ten years of full-time public relations, communications and/or marketing leadership experience, with higher education or nonprofit experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required, and master’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated experience in leading communication teams, planning and implementing strategic communications and building relationships among stakeholders.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience regarding how best to leverage and create content for a variety of communication platforms, including websites, email marketing/newsletters, social media/blogs, print publications, photography/videography and graphic design in support of strategic communications and marketing goals.
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing; knowledge of AP Style preferred.
- Ability to self-start; proven track record of excellent strategic thinking with a high degree of comfort and flexibility managing multiple, competing priorities and with attention to complex details.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher.
- Intermediate knowledge of basic statistical applications.
- Intermediate knowledge of web site development and print publication production.
May require some evening or weekend work.
