Dean of Dentistry manages administrative functions of the college of dentistry. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Dentistry leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Dentistry requires an advanced degree of dentistry. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Dentistry manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Dentistry typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Serving as the point person for dealing with behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issues; Acting as a resource to teachers in their instructional practice, especially as it relates to issues of discipline, relationships with students, classroom management, and school culture; Assisting teachers, students, and parents in the effective creation and implementation of individual behavior plans; Leading staff efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on time, and working aggressively with students and parents to ensure excellent attendance; Helping to reinforce the effective use of a school-wide behavior plan; Serving as the point person for discipline/culture issues; Proactively circulating throughout classrooms and hallways during the day, to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture; Presenting staff development and in-service; Coordinating and supervising school activities; Developing and implementing of school restructuring programs, consensus and team building models, interdisciplinary teams and shared decision-making; filing appropriate paperwork in a timely manner in accordance with local and state law; documenting appropriately in our online management system.
