Dean of Fine Arts manages administrative functions of the college of fine arts. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Fine Arts leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Fine Arts requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Fine Arts manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Fine Arts typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking friendly, responsible, and reliable individuals who enjoy sales and customer service to join in the Visitor Services department as Visitor Services Associates.

    Visitor Services Associates provide excellent customer service to support a welcoming, inclusive environment for visitors and staff. This is a front-line position with a priority on communicating with our visitors, selling tickets and memberships, and providing exceptional service. This is a part time, non-exempt position with no benefits, working 20-28 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability is required.

    Duties include:

    • Selling tickets to exhibitions and museum programs.

    • Processing new memberships and renewals; taking donations.

    • Assisting visitors with questions, gathering visitor feedback, and responding to inquiries in person, via email, or over the phone.

    • Taking tickets and selling audio guides for exhibitions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Prior experience working in a public-facing role in a customer service, hospitality, or retail setting. Experience with cash handling and point-of-sale systems is required.

    Outstanding interpersonal and oral communication skills, and the ability to work confidently and courteously with museum staff and the general public.

    Must be able to handle a wide range of customer service issues and solve problems independently.

    Ability to work effectively in both fast-paced and slow-paced environments.

    Ability to communicate with the public in person and over the telephone; to use a computer with mouse and keyboard; to sit or stand for the majority of their shift, with reasonable accommodations.
