Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Assists the Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with the administration, operation, division scheduling, budgetary matters, and promotion of programs in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Prepares documentation and oversee external accreditation activities.
    • Provides program review support.
    • Works closely with department chairs and program directors to assure effective, efficient and people friendly operation of all units and to maximize cooperation and coordination of operations.
    • Assists the Dean in overseeing the STEM center and its staff.
    • Develops, markets, and maintains continuing education opportunities working with Workforce Development as needed.
    • Works to achieve cultural diversity in staff, student population, and curricula.
    • Provides technical program information and assistance to administrators, faculty, staff, and external audiences to promote programs in the School.
    • Assists in the academic orientation of new faculty and ongoing professional development opportunities for all division faculty.
    • Promotes innovative teaching methodologies and use of instructional technology.
    • Collaborates with other Schools to support STEM programs.
    • Assists in the promotion and marketing of the College and School image and articulation of programs in the college service area. Maintains close liaisons and harmonious relationships with educational and public agencies to foster strong working relationships.
    • Responds in a timely and professional manner to the suggestions, inquiries, and complaints of students, faculty, and staff as assigned or approved by the Dean.
    • Compiles and analyzes data related to the operation of the school and prepares reports, proposals, presentation, information, and materials requested by the Dean of the School.
    • Involves faculty in strategic planning and program review.
    • Participates in and promotes projects that enhance instruction and help the School to achieve annual goals and objectives which are a part of strategic planning.
    • Ensures that instructional facilities, equipment, and supplies are adequate and in a suitable, safe state for use.
    • Disseminates research findings on STEM issues to the faculty, staff, and other agencies as appropriate.
    • Collaborates with the Dean in oversight of catalog changes, brochures, monthly and annual reports, surveys, and other documents as needed.
    • Assists in grant development.
    • Assists in the assessment of new curricula and programs to meet the needs of the region, considering appropriate issues of feasibility and sustainability.
    • Represents the School at local and state meetings related to STEM programs and initiatives as assigned by the Dean of the School.
    • Represents the Dean of the School as assigned by the Dean.
    • Serves on program advisory boards, collaborates with community workforce investment boards and institutions to support academic initiatives and projects.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those listed above which do not alter the basic level of the position.
    • Oversees course scheduling.
    • Assists with faculty observations.

    Job Requirements:
    • Master's degree and a bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline.
    • A minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education administration at the Director, or above, level in a college or university (community college preferred).
    • College-level teaching experience in a STEM discipline.
    • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to use technology effectively to perform daily duties and to gather and disseminate information to faculty and staff.
    • Knowledge of innovative teaching methodologies, including technological applications and distance learning strategies.
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
    • Proven commitment to high academic standards and integrity.
    • Understanding of, and commitment to, the community college mission, vision, and values.

    Additional Information:


    Salary: $95,000 - $105,000 per annum plus fringe benefits, state-funded position. Starting salary will dependent upon qualifications and experience. Twelve-month position, Non-Unit Professional (NUP)
