    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Dean provides strategic leadership and direction for the Health Sciences Department (Nursing, Dental Sciences, Medical Assisting, Emergency Medical Services, CNA/Tri-Level Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide, Diagnostic Technology [EKG, Phlebotomy]); Business, Early Childhood Education, Fire Science, Funeral Service, and Advanced Studies (including the Cape Cod Center for Graduate Education).

    The Dean is responsible for: providing leadership and support to all faculty and staff assigned to the area; oversight of the Division's execution of the College's strategic plan; assessment of program effectiveness including external accreditation, state licensing, and periodic internal program review; encouraging and developing excellence in teaching and assessment of student learning; supporting the use of technology and innovative pedagogy to improve student learning and success; monitoring of local, regional and national trends to ensure programs meet workforce and public needs; implementation of College administrative and academic policies; administering collective bargaining provisions; developing the academic schedule; developing and monitoring divisional and area budgets; assisting with writing and managing grants; and, establishing and maintaining partnerships with community stakeholders to improve existing programs and establish new programs.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    Personnel Management and Supervision

    • Serve as the administrative officer of the Division and supervise all faculty, professional staff, and support staff, as appropriate.
    • Support faculty and staff innovation and creativity.
    • Encourage excellence in teaching and professional growth.
    • Promote an inclusive climate, collegiality, and effective communication throughout the Division.
    • Administer collective bargaining agreements as they relate to members of the Division and consult with Human Resources to implement them.
    • Make recommendations to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs in regards to filling vacant positions, proposing new positions, recruiting and hiring of all faculty, reappointments, salary adjustments, promotions, sabbaticals, tenure, and leaves of absence for all faculty in the Division.
    • Conduct at least two Division meetings each academic year.
    • Assign teaching loads to Division faculty based on information assembled by Department Chairs.
    • Resolve faculty, student, department, and divisional conflict at the lowest level.
    • Assist in overall development and administration of grant projects.

    Curriculum Development and Management

    • Assist Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in developing and maintaining appropriate course curricula and assessments of student learning outcomes.
    • Assist faculty and staff with assessing the effectiveness of courses, programs, and services.
    • Advise on program changes and policies and ensure timely communication with other College departments.
    • Review and recommend revisions to program requirements, catalog descriptions and prerequisites for all courses within the division, as appropriate.
    • Maintain appropriate records of programs and courses offered.
    • Assist in the development and execution of articulation agreements with other institutions.
    • Communicate and implement academic policies and procedures.
    • Ensure that program advisory committees meet at least once every academic year and advisory committee input is used to revise and improve academic programs.
    • Provide information and support to other areas of the College.

    General Administrative Duties and Responsibilities

    • Coordinate the cost center budget according to the College's priorities and strategic plan.
    • Assist faculty and staff with reviewing and developing strategic planning reports.
    • Approve all expenditures by members of the division regardless of source of funding.
    • Ensure that all expenditures for supplies, equipment, and services follow College procurement policies and procedures.
    • Assist Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in the development of the master academic schedule and assign faculty workloads within that schedule.
    • Act on all faculty requests for attendance at professional meetings in consultation with the President or Vice President.
    • Recommend travel requests to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs.
    • Ensure that Division policies and procedures are consistent with institutional policies and procedures.
    • Represent the Division on College committees and serve on committees as assigned.
    • Attend the Presidents Leadership Council.
    • Collaborate with faculty, staff, the Dean of Enrollment Management and Advising Services, the College's Communications Department and the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs to annually review and revise academic information in digital and print formats.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Professional and External Affairs Management

    • Attend and represent the College at statewide and other meetings, conventions, seminars, workshops, etc., as appropriate.
    • Support and assist Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in matters of licensure and accreditation.
    • Work with Department Chairs and Program Coordinators in assembling and maintaining active and engaged advisory committees.
    • Seek opportunities to establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations related to divisional areas.
    • Schedule annual division meetings and attend department and program meetings with appropriate faculty and staff to promote communication, provide opportunities for professional development, and to offer a forum for faculty and staff to review and evaluate policies and procedures.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    :

    • Master's degree from an accredited institution in one of the disciplines represented in the Division or equivalent.
    • Five years of post-secondary teaching experience.
    • Five years of post-secondary administrative experience, minimally at the director, department chair or program coordinator level.
    • Demonstrated expertise and proven impact on increasing equitable student success.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of assessment of student learning and program effectiveness, student success practices, and program evaluation.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in oral and written expression.
    • Proficiency in using student information systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Demonstrated examples of leadership.

    Additional Information:


    COMPENSATION
    : Annual Salary Range of $123,000 - $135,000, dependent upon qualifications. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program, including option to participate in Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System. Full-time, Non-unit Professional Position.
