Dean of Sciences manages administrative functions of the college of science. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Sciences leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Sciences requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Sciences manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide administrative oversight for various health sciences departments;
Serve as Framingham Campus Administrator;
Collaborate with department chairs,
program directors and coordinators, and administrative staff to regularly
review classroom, laboratory, and instructional technology needs for health
sciences classes;
Oversee some programs that
have evening and/or weekend programming.
Collaborate with college
staff to ensure timely acquisition as well as maintenance and upkeep of
educational resources such as equipment, software, and manuals to ensure
development and delivery of high-quality health sciences programs;
Assist in annual budget preparation for the Health Sciences Division and deployment of the Health Sciences Division budgets;
Participate in the governance of the College, serving on various College committees to offer administrative and academic leadership;
Provide direction for curriculum, instructional, and/or program development and implementation; evaluate results and make appropriate recommendations for modifications consistent with contemporary evidence-based practice;
In collaboration with current faculty, orient and mentor new full- and part-time faculty and staff to their areas of responsibility;
Support faculty in searches for full-time and part-time faculty positions;
Direct and assist in the preparation and assignment of class schedules and teaching assignments that promote optimal benefit to the program;
In collaboration with the Clinical Compliance Officer, secure and maintain the clinical sites and agreements, and monitor/address student clearance process issues;
Work to resolve student issues in accordance with applicable laws and established program, institutional, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts policies and procedures;
Promote respectful environments, cultural diversity, and institutional civility;
Collaborate with the faculty and Dean to prepare grant proposals and identify workforce development opportunities;
In collaboration with the Office of Admissions and the Program Chairs, establish equitable practices for the selection, admission, and progression of students in the programs;
Participate in professional organizations and maintain an understanding and working knowledge of current ideas, research, and practices related to programs offered at the College.
