Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Digital Production and Metadata Librarian
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the N. E. H. Chief Technical Services Librarian, the Digital Production and Metadata Librarian produces quality digital images of rare materials, performs post-capture enhancements, and ingests the digital images and accompanying metadata into the Boston Athenaeum’s digital repository (CONTENTdm). Other major responsibilities include documenting projects and processes, metadata creation, stakeholder communications, and maintaining the organization of digital files.
The Athenaeum has been reevaluating this mission critical role. Consequently, the chosen candidate will be a thought partner for the Chief Technical Services Librarian in shaping the contours of the position and working collaboratively on setting departmental operations. The position provides an ideal opportunity for the right candidate to grow their skill set and apply their imagination to achieve the Boston Athenaeum Technical Services Department’s long standing goals of preserving and improving access to library’s collections.
