Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Arts & Humanities Collection Strategist, Music Librarian
    Collection Development and Management

    The University of California San Diego Library seeks applications from highly motivated, innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented professionals to join the Library as our Arts & Humanities Collection Strategist and Music Liaison Librarian (Associate or Full Librarian). This position reports to the Director of the Library's Collection Development & Management Program (CDM).

    Responsibilities of the Position

    Arts & Humanities Collection Strategist
    Collections within the Arts & Humanities portfolio support the Departments of Visual Arts, Music, Literature, Philosophy, and Theatre & Dance, as well as related disciplines, such as World History and Cultural Studies, Film Studies and Classical Studies.

    Key responsibilities include:
    * Oversees budget allocations and expenditures for the Arts & Humanities related funds. Provides collections-related information, direction, support, and training to subject librarians selecting materials in these fields.
    * Provides leadership and guidance in envisioning the future direction of collections including budget sustainability, open access initiatives, and digital collection development.
    * Reviews and provides feedback for new resources, renewals, and cancellations. Provides campus input on UC-wide licensed resources.
    * Represents Arts & Humanities interests on scholarly communication issues. Participates in local and UC system-wide groups for scholarly communications, open access, and transformative agreements.
    * Represents Arts & Humanities subjects in decision-making for the physical collections. Coordinates weeding and space-optimization projects for existing physical collections. Provides input and recommendations in managing physical collections in the context of UC Shared Print Initiatives and other regional and national consortia.

    * Represents the Library on appropriate UC-wide Common Knowledge Groups (comprised of selectors and librarians with common subject responsibilities at other UC campuses). Participate in the coordination of agreements for resources with publishers and other UC Libraries.

    Subject Librarian for Music
    Liaison assignment includes working closely with the Department of Music faculty, staff, and students, Art Power, the performing arts initiative on campus, and other constituents pursuing music scholarship on the UC San Diego campus.

    Key responsibilities include:
    * Serves as the primary contact for research and educational needs of the Department of Music and develop and promote innovative services and resources to enhance the research, teaching, and learning mission of UC San Diego.
    * Actively engages with faculty and students in music-affiliated programs and other groups performing arts initiatives.
    * Develops music-related print and audio collections to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of students and faculty, and to highlight local and regional strengths of the UC San Diego music community.

    * Provides music-related reference and research assistance and consultations, and music related instruction services.
    * Provides other appropriate services and support such as serving as a resource for information on scholarly communication.
    * Develops and maintain subject/discipline/format specific online guides and learning objects to promote important music content to the campus community.
    * Collaborates with other librarians and staff on collection management issues related to music collections, including print resources and physical audio formats.

    Qualifications
    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

    * MLS/MLIS, or equivalent advanced degree or experience.
    * Demonstrated experience managing a collections budget and developing library collections, including audio formats.
    * Demonstrated experience in providing library public services including reference, research consultations and/or instruction services.
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in communicating and applying interpersonal skills including intercultural competence and awareness of customer service methods and practices that support student well-being and belonging.
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in synthesizing a variety of perspectives in order to work with others to meet Library goals and patron needs.
    * Demonstrated commitment to excellence in service and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, students, staff and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

    Preferred qualifications

    * Undergraduate and/or advanced degree in Music.
    * Demonstrated experience working in an academic or research library.
    * Professional service or scholarship in music and/or music librarianship.
    * Demonstrated experience with digital collection projects.
