Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Under the direction of the Library Director, the Assistant Librarian serves as part of the library management team participating in short and long-range planning, training of faculty and staff, data collection and reporting, policy development, and other professional support of library operations.

    The Assistant Librarian focuses on one of the following specialization areas and oversees its operation : Access Services, eLearning, Outreach, Systems, or Technical Services.

    Librarians serve on college-wide and faculty committees.

    Duties

    • Assists students, faculty, and staff in making effective use of library resources through virtual and in-person reference assistance, one-on-one in-depth consultations by appointment, and through regularly scheduled reference desk hours.
    • Teaches information literacy skills and effective use of library resources to diverse audiences both in-person and online through innovative instructional curricula based on the Association for College and Research Library's Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education and incorporating teaching techniques from the fields of andragogy and heutagogy.
    • Facilitates proactive faculty outreach, collection development, and maintenance as the faculty liaison for assigned subjects, fostering collaborative relationships with individual faculty and the NWACC instructional community.
    • Plans, organizes, supervises, and maintains a high standard of service for NWACC student's faculty and staff with an emphasis on student success and retention.
    • Contributes to the mission of the NWACC Library through assessment initiatives, service on committees, and awareness of changes in allied departments, including instructional support across the disciplines.
    • Collaborates with colleagues to resolve complex departmental problems, developing or revising policies and procedures to improve resources, services, operations, and activities;

    implements and communicates policies and procedures.

    • Develops and maintains professional skills through participation in continuing education and professional development activities and contributes to national library communication by actively reading, responding to, and initiating discussions on library issues.
    • Collects and reports data related to library operations.
    • Shares supervision of the library and serves as backup for other library functions as needed.
    • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

    Salary : $46,000 per year

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

    • In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following areas : Access Services, eLearning, Outreach, Systems, or Technical Services.
    • Skill in planning, organizing, and supervising library functions and services.
    • Dedication to providing high-quality service to library users, with a focus on student success and retention.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop, implement and communicate policies, procedures, and library-related information effectively and respond to complex or difficult inquiries or complaints.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with other library staff and serve as backup for various library functions.
    • Ability to provide effective in-person and virtual reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
    • Familiarity with the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education and the ability to incorporate it into reference, instruction, and other student-facing activities.
    • Skill in designing, delivering, and assessing engaging information literacy instruction to diverse audiences, both in-person and online using andragogical and heutagogical principles.
    • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with faculty, fostering collaboration and providing specialized support for assigned subjects.
    • Competence in using various library-related technologies, databases, and online resources, as well as standard office equipment and software.
    • Experience in collecting and analyzing data related to library operations and generating reports to assess and improve library services and resources.
    • Capacity to work as part of the library management team and contribute to short and long-range planning.
    • Ability to adapt to changes in library practices, technology, and instructional methods.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about the latest library trends and best practices.
    • Ability to share in the supervision of library staff and oversee core library functions

    Work Hours :

    40 hours per week primarily daytime shifts Monday-Friday with evening and weekend shifts as needed.

    Education and Experience :

    REQUIRED : Master's degree in related field plus 1 year of related experience and / or training. ALA-accredited MLIS or MLS preferred

    PREFERRED Specialization Qualifications : education, experience or related training in one or more of the following areas :

    Access Services

    • In-depth knowledge of access services, including circulation, stack maintenance, course reserves, and interlibrary loan best practices
    • Proficiency managing an integrated library system, preferably KOHA
    • Supervisory experience
    • Customer focused with exceptional customer service skills

    E-Learning

    • Experience creating and assessing the effectiveness of digital learning objects using heutagogical best practices
    • Familiarity with graphic design and video creation software such as Canva, YuJa, or similar
    • Instructor-level experience with learning management systems, preferably Canvas
    • Proficiency with the Springshare products, LibGuides and LibWizard

    Outreach

    • Experience developing and implementing outreach activities
    • Ability to communicate to the library's diverse user populations with particular attention to those underutilizing the library
    • Proficiency with graphic design and video creation software such as Canva, YuJa, or similar and the Springshare product, LibGuides
    • Supervisory experience

    S ystems

    • Ability to administer and maintain the library's technological infrastructure; preferable experience with KOHA, EBSCO Discovery Service, OpenAthens, the Springshare suite of products, laptops, audiovisual equipment, and Faronics DeepFreeze or comparable
    • Ability to help library staff and patrons access software and technology resources
    • Expert technical problem-solving skills
    • Supervisory experience

    Technical Services

    • Knowledge of MARC21, AACR2, RDA, Library of Congress subject heading policies, and other cataloging standards.
    • Experience cataloging print and electronic resources
