Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Reporting to the Director of the Library, this position will be responsible for a wide range of academic library public services duties with emphasis in the areas of Hawai'i, the Pacific and indigenous culture revitalization, including:

    1. Managing and developing the library’s Hawaiian Collection and services.
    2. Delivering reference service. 
    3. Providing library instruction.
    4. Providing library support for distance learning programs of the College of Hawaiian Language.
    5. Working with library faculty to improve library services.
    6. Develop and implement digital collections and services for Hawaiian and Pacific undergraduate and graduate research.
    7. Serving on library, university, and UH System committees.
    8. Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Librarians have faculty status and must meet requirements for tenure and promotion including professional development, research and service.

     Librarian II

    1. ALA accredited MLS/MLIS/MIS or international equivalent.

    Librarian III

    1. All minimum qualifications required for Librarian II.  
    2. 24 post baccalaureate credits in addition to above degree.  
    3. At least 3 years of experience in public services in a college or university library.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Experience providing both traditional and electronic services in an academic library.
    2. Extensive knowledge of traditional and electronic resources relating to Hawai'i.
    3. Experience providing academic library instruction sessions.
    4. BA in Hawaiian Language or Hawaiian Studies.
    5. Successful completion of three years of Hawaiian language coursework or equivalent; 
    6. Demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian thought, value, and culture; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience and knowledge of digital media production.
    7. Knowledge or experience developing digital collections of indigenous artifacts/culture.
    8. Experience working effectively with patrons and resolving patron issues.
    9. Experience with Web page design tools.
    10. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and colleagues in a multicultural environment.
