Drilling Operations Manager manages daily drilling, production, and engineering operations for an organization. Manages the planning and execution of drilling projects, the development of oil and gas fields, and the analysis of reserves.     What you’ll do:

    • Manages and maintains a fleet of multiple drill rigs (i.e. Simco, CME, Diedrich, and Geoprobe rigs of various models and years in service).
    • Receives fieldwork scheduling assignments and works collaboratively with project team members to efficiently complete fieldwork tasks.
    • Reviews Field Scopes of Work with Project Leaders to clearly define field objectives.
    • Maintains State and Federal DOT records for drill rigs, support vehicles and personnel.
    • Schedules, directs and dispatches field resources (people and equipment) to accomplish project activities including drilling supplies, instrumentation supplies, coordination of water sources and scheduled routine drilling equipment and safety device replacements.
    • Coordinates, schedules, and arranges the calibration of field drill rig equipment.
    • Coordinates access permissions with property owners and/or on-site personnel.
    • Performs site visits for accessibility evaluation, borehole locating, and documenting existing site conditions.
    • Requests, coordinates and maintains public and/or private utility clearance.
    • Establishes and maintains Client relationships, and develops new project opportunities.
    • Coordinates with clients to maintain utilization of field assets (people and equipment).
    • Monitors project schedules and fieldwork progress.
    • Attends project meetings.
    • Communicates project field status updates amongst team members.
    • Trains field staff including drillers and driller assistants in current and new drilling techniques, sampling techniques, instrumentation installations, calibration, and safety practices.
    • Performs field safety audits/training.
    • Performs field equipment safety and operational capacity audits/inspections.
    • Responsible for maintenance of fleet vehicles, drill rigs, and standalone core machines.
    • Assists in the performance of geotechnical drilling and sampling operations.
    • Becomes fluent and enforces of company safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work.
    • Trains field staff with mud rotary and rock coring.
    • Performs field safety audits.
    • Assists with project billing functions, client follow up and account collection.

     

    What it takes to be successful in this role:

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in drilling services and/or heavy machinery is preferred
    • 2 years' experience supervising others is preferred
    • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record required
    • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
    • Coordinate with Engineers to get the Work Orders, visit project sites and plan the schedule for the drill rigs
    • Ability to operate and understand the Geotechnical Drilling Rigs (ex Simco, CME, Diedrich, and Geoprobe rigs of various makes and models)
    • Ability to maintain and account for an inventory of assets (drill rigs, carrier trucks, fleet trucks, trailers, etc), safety inspections and safety training for field staff
    • May travel up to 25% of time
    • Ability to operate and understand the Geotechnical Drilling Rigs

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
    • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
    • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
    • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
    • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
    • Ability to climb occasionally
    • Ability to travel to project sites to visit with field staff frequently
