    Job Duties

    Do you love science? Are you someone who loves to engage with young children and facilitate learning? Then join our amazing team of museum educators as an Early Childhood Education Specialist!

    Working with the Education department Museum Programs team, the Early Childhood Education Specialist will serve as a Science Educator who will specifically assist in the development and implementation of programs for young children (ages 0-5) at the Museum, including but not limited to Labs, Demonstrations, Exhibit Interpretation and Museum events, both on and off site. Working closely with Education staff, they will develop and lead the Early ExpLORE program for guests age 0-5 and their caretakers and serve as the main contact person for overseeing the Light Place exhibit, the Museum’s early childhood exhibit space. They will teach programming to guests in both English and Spanish, and provide occasional translation services for the Museum.

    Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
    Please note that this is a part-time position and will be scheduled for 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be very enthusiastic and energetic.
    • Enthusiasm for teaching people of all backgrounds.
    • Ability to effectively interact with the general public, school groups and staff members.
    • Ability to effectively work with young children including babies through six years and their caregivers
    • Ability to effectively present educational programming in both one-on-one and group situations in an engaging, compelling manner.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
    • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to implement informal science educational programs and events.
    • Effective problem-solving skills, patience and flexibility.
    • Demonstrated desire, commitment and ability to work with children.
    • Experience with Distance Learning platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet, Word processing and Spreadsheet programs, such as Google Docs and Excel a plus.
    • Fluency in Spanish - ability to teach and facilitate Museum programs entirely in Spanish.
    • Previous experience delivering educational programs in informal and/or formal settings.
    • Experience working with young children in an organized setting.
