  • SUMMARY

    This position involves highly skilled technical work in the electrical and electronic operation, maintenance and repair or electrical and electronic circuits, equipment and instruments at Wastewater Lift Stations and Vacuum Sewer Stations.

    SUPERVISION

    This position is supervised by the Maintenance Supervisor.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Troubleshoots and determines causes of malfunctions of electronic controllers, control circuits and pumps.

    Conduct a preventative maintenance program for electrical and electronic equipment as well as mechanical wastewater pumps. Make visual inspections to determine proper operating condition.

    Installs, calibrates, and maintains complex electronic process control equipment such as: pressure, flow, level controllers, recorders, SCADA and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Installs, tests, and repairs electrical/electronic equipment such as AC/DC variable speed drives and motors, alarm systems, generators, solid-state and relay control systems, medium voltage switchgear and controllers. Additionally, a requirement to pull, clean and replace pumps as needed.

    Perform operational/visual inspections and testing to determine proper operating condition.

    Install switches, receptacles, transmitters, motors, conduit and wiring according to prints and engineered specifications.

    Train Maintenance Assistant(s) Electricians and other subordinates.

    May be called upon to assist in the same type of work at the OUA Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants.

    Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.

    Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assemble, and install electrical conduit.

    Pulls wiring through conduit.

    Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.

    Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.

    Connects power cables to equipment

    Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.

    Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocations, or replacements

    Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Considerable knowledge and understanding of electronic control and circuits.

    Knowledge of the methods, practices, testing equipment, tools and equipment used in electrical repair and maintenance work.

    Considerable knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to medium voltage, electrical maintenance and repair work.

    Considerable knowledge and understanding of motors, time meters, alarm systems, and other electrical and electronic equipment, programmable logic controllers, SCADA, and telemetry systems.

    Ability to trouble shoot, comprehend, and implement appropriate corrections to complex electronic and electrical control circuits quickly and thoroughly in adverse conditions.

    Ability to inspect, maintain and repair electrical equipment and controls and develop “as built” drawing of existing circuits.

    Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions or to work with minimum supervision.

    May be required to supervise temporary contractors during new projects.

    Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.

    Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical/electronic trade.

    May require announced or unannounced overtime work and the ability to respond to call-out work during non-working hours or emergencies.

    Adheres to all policies and procedures

    Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions

    Essential Minimum Qualifications:

    Graduated from an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma as determined by the State of Florida.

    Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in operating, maintaining and repairing electrical circuits, equipment and instruments and related electronic apparatus, including motor driven pumps, circuit breakers and related electronic apparatus.

    A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

    An appropriate valid State of Florida Driver’s License is required

    Essential Physical Skill:

    Moderate lifting and carrying; pulling; pushing; walking; standing; kneeling; bending; smelling; balancing; stooping; driving; distinguish colors. Able to use fingers and both hands, climbing (use of arms and legs), straight pulling, pulling hand over hand. Using restrictive safety equipment such as gloves, face shields, hearing protection devices, safety harness and hard hats.

    Environmental Conditions:

    Work inside and outside. Outside work will be required in all weather conditions and is often accompanied by noise; poor lighting; fumes; gases; greases; electricity; moving objects; ladders and scaffolding; odors; below ground; in water; confined spaces, and hazardous chemicals.

    Special Requirements:

    Willing to work overtime, holidays, natural disaster, and weekends as requested.

    Pay: $24.30 - $40.10 per hour
