Director of Communications at St. Michael's Church (Full-Time Non-Exempt)
Communications Unity and Alignment
- Carry out the day-to-day tasks of facilitating communications/marketing
- Understands the vision of transforming hearts through Jesus Christ and organizes communication messages in a way that best reflects church priorities.
- Kept informed about the leadership priorities and decisions, with permission to speak into communications/marketing issues.
- Partner with ministries, meeting with them and creating communication plans to mobilize their specific audiences to respond. Proactively plan and work with ministries to support their communication needs in a timely manner and on budget.
- Ensure high-quality and highest impact communications are created for both internal and external audiences. Continually looking for ways to communicate existing church-wide and ministry programs in creative ways that will evoke a response from the congregation and community.
- Lead and manage coordinators, assistants and volunteers to help implement communication strategies and tactics. This team is asked to:
o Keep Social Media and website fresh and engaging
o Network with other church communication teams
o Collect and tell stories of life change
o Photograph the congregation/members on Sundays, retreats, mission trips, VBS, etc.
o Help strategize and plan communications/marketing for 6-12 months
o Own and manage the church’s brand/identity
o Production layout for all publications especially weekly bulletins & weekly digital newsletters.
- Current on creative communications and technological trends and looks for opportunities to use this information to more effectively communicate with the community and church family. In direct communication with vendors for technology support, ie. Printers, Computers, Software (Database), Web Developers, Church Communicator’s Network
- Educate people, especially staff, about procedures and processes for communicating church messages. Meet them where they are in their level of understanding and help them come to know what we do and why we do it and how they can contribute to the overall effectiveness of church communications.
- Proficient in writing/editing, graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite), communication, strategy and multi-tasking. Extremely comfortable working with computers. Serve as webmaster.
Communications for Print and Digital
· Prepare and print weekly bulletins
· Coordinate with Director of Music for Sunday music, concert programs, and marketing
· Prepare and send out weekly and monthly electronic newsletters
· Create and load slides for the Broad Street TV
· Create and print marketing materials, such as posters, handout cards, sandwich board signs, display cards banners, and other requested materials to advertise church events and ministries
· Create and print campus sings, including room signs, stand signs, parking signs, door nameplates, etc.
· Collect and print materials for cornerstone events such as Day of Healing Prayer GIC, the Annual Meeting (including the Annual Report), and Parish Retreat
· Prepare and package bulk mail, including church-wide mailings for various ministries
· Create and print certificates for baptisms and confirmations; update the database and Parish Register
· Create and print bulletins for weddings and funerals; update the database and Register
Communications Technology
· Collaborates on technical support, licensing, subscription software, general office supply, postage, bulk mail, paper, outsource printing, advertising, communications assistants, website, database, and internet budget.
· Maintains a monthly reminder system for the staff of tasks for each season of the church year using Google Calendar.
· Assists with support services including oversight of office files using Google Drive and other office equipment.
· Updates and maintains the database, prepare variable data reports for staff and ministry leaders from the church database.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Possesses and exhibits the following skills: interpersonal, written, and oral communication; cooperation/teaming to work with staff and lay leadership and with other members of the congregation; and supervisory, organizational, time management, and record-keeping.
· Is self-motivating and able to work with minimal direct supervision.
· Is willing to learn and work with the organizational priorities and systems as determined by the Rector.

On-call response service, particularly in emergencies or special circumstances
