Energy Dispatch Director directs the real-time operations of energy dispatch centers. Responsible for ongoing transmission and distribution of energy. Being an Energy Dispatch Director aware of generation expectations and is responsible for minimizing risk and maximizing efficiency and economy. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Energy Dispatch Director demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Typically reports to a top management. The Energy Dispatch Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Reports to: Senior Director, Direct Materials and Energy Procurement

     

    Position Summary:

    The Director of Energy Procurement is responsible for the contractual arrangements related to purchases and sales of energy for all the North American sites. The Director must maintain a close relationship with suppliers and serving utilities in addition with the mill’s operation and management. The Director is also responsible for establishing budgeting and forecasting guidance at a business and site level. Working closely with trade association and working knowledge of the market, the Director will monitor energy regulatory and legislative issues that could impact the company and establish intervention plans. The Director will have the support of and will lead a team of two Energy managers.

     

    Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

    • Negotiate and manage energy purchase and sales contracts with a diverse set of Suppliers and Utilities. Make recommendations to operations.
    • Monitor and participate in state/provincial and federal energy regulatory and legislative activities. Craft strategies/intervention plans in various rate cases for electricity and natural gas ensuring operations are under the best possible supply conditions.
    • Responsible for Forecasting and Budgeting guidelines and supporting analysis, including working with treasury in establishing hedging price guidelines.
    • Collaborate with other departments in analyzing energy related impacts from new investment, be it Capex, M&A, Carbon regulation & sustainability goals.
    • Understand each operations/regions particularities to recommend the proper mix of distribution rates firm/interruptible, etc. considering various risk factors.
    • Lead the energy managers providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members.
    • Market Analysis: Stay informed about market dynamics, emerging trends, and pricing fluctuations for electricity, natural gas and other alternative sources.
    • Sustainability: Integrate sustainability and environmental considerations into the procurement strategy, working toward responsible sourcing and reduced environmental impact.
    • The financial impact of the energy usage and generation is one of the top items in P&P manufacturing. Optimizing and managing the risk of this category is essential for sustainable business. 

     

    Key Skills

    • Good knowledge of the electricity supply particularities and the natural gas supply markets.
    • Solid analytical and communication skills.
    • Good collaboration skills across various levels of the organization.

     

    Professional Experience/Qualifications

    • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the energy field
    • A bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering, business management or related.

     

    You must successfully complete a selection process that includes interviews, aptitude tests (for some positions) and reference verification.
