Engineering Director plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives. Being an Engineering Director utilizes best practice engineering methods and provides expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives. POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and controls the activities of the Plant Operations and Maintenance departments within the SwedishAmerican Health System ensuring safe and efficient operations. Functions as Health System Safety Officer and directs the Corporate Health System Safety Committee. Manages, develops and oversees an effective Safety Management Program that protects patients, associates and visitors within the SwedishAmerican Health System (SAHS).
Maintains a safe and comfortable physical environment for patients, associates and the public and develops and implements business and strategic plans in accordance with system, state, Joint Commission, OSHA and other local and governmental agency standards. Provides opportunities for continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System Incentives.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or health related field. In lieu of degree, seven (7) – ten (10) years of progressively more responsible management experience in plant operations/engineering/maintenance/management. Master’s Degree preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
NFPA Life Safety and ASHE Healthcare Construction Certification preferred. ASHE certified.
Must have valid Illinois State Driver’s license and a driving record that allows for the Health System insurance carrier to cover the incumbent.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Excellent communication and contract negotiation skills. Knowledge of NFPA, JCAH, IDPH, OSHA, Federal and State codes and regulations. Thorough working knowledge of building specifications and the ability to read and understand blueprints.
Ability to utilize computer spreadsheets, databases and word processing applications. Ability to effectively interact with Board Members, Officers, Physicians and all levels of staff and regulatory officials within the community. Successful completion of annual job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
