Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     We are currently looking for a passionate and technically savvy individual to join our Freeman Team as an Environmental, Health, & Safety Specialist. An Environmental, Health, & Safety Specialist monitors activities and functions, ensures compliance, and makes recommendations for improvement to ensure adherence to the established policies, procedures and requirements of the EHS functions for the facility. 

    You will be the owner of the EHS department’s programs, ultimately helping provide a great and safe place to work. You will partner with facilities, interface with vendors, and collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to help realize our vision of empowering employees to champion safety. This role is key to delivering EHS business objectives, including benchmark personnel safety results, adherence to all laws and regulations, and continuing EHS education for this role. The successful individual will build site EHS capability to meet Freeman expectations, lead various action plan focus items, and implement regulatory compliance programs. The individual will provide site single point of contact leadership, including training and qualifying site resources to develop their mastery. The individual selected must come with in-depth technical mastery of EHS systems and work processes and is expected to grow capability in other EHS areas while in the role.

    Key Job Elements

    • Ensures compliance with organizational & government EHS standards (i.e. OSHA) including: completing reports for submission to EPA, OSHA or other regulatory agencies and assists with regulatory inspections/visits. 
    • Manage EHS program system elements including document control, file structure, and training matrices.
    • Driving safety programs to reduce injuries.
    • Performs EHS training, including Emergency Action Plan drills, New-Hire Orientation, Daily/Weekly Topics, Safety standdowns, and specialized training and evaluations such as forklifts, aerial lifts, cranes, etc.
    • Identifies existing & potential EHS problems and participates in developing corrective measures.
    • Conducts thorough accident investigations and property damages with follow up corrective actions as needed.
    • Completes Self-Audits, J.S.A (job hazard analysis), P.P.E (personal protective equipment) assessments
    • Support facilities and department operations for additional EHS needs.
    • Keep up to date with current and pending EHS legislation and ensure that internal stakeholders are informed and made aware of the impact(s).
    • Work with leaders and team members to ensure support of site EHS activities, development & reinforcement of best practices.
    • Report, monitor, and collaborate with leaders on preventive and corrective action for environmental, health, safety, environment and security concerns.
    • Determine EHS training requirements and conduct, coordinate, and track training.
    • Coordinate tracking of energy use, water use, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and waste generation reduction projects.
    • Position will report directly to the Human Resources Manager. 

    Qualifications

    Education | A Bachelors or Master’s in:

    • Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management or Environmental Science
    • Relevant Engineering Degrees: Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Engineering Management

    Work Qualifications:

    • 3 years of experience within Health, Safety, & Environment roles preferred
    • Strong Technical Mastery - Knowledge or experience in regulatory program and compliance management, interpreting regulatory requirements including waste, air, water and developing solutions to meet those requirements.
    • Ability to problem solve, analyze, redesign, and implement plans.
    • Background with manufacturing, operations, or industrial environments is preferred.
    • Understanding of EHS systems and work processes, able to evaluate EHS needs, and develop action plans.
    • Interpret legal regulations and standards.
    • Able to work effectively with autonomy and lead groups to drive improvements
    • Able to influence plant leadership and direction, and lead work successfully      with internal and external resources.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Proficient computer experience in Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
    • Demonstrates ability to work effectively at all levels, including company management, staff, contractor/vendors, and site personnel.
    • 20 hours OSHA training preferred.
    • Exceptional organizational and administrative skills; strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Extensive knowledge of safety protocols and emergency preparedness.
    • CPR/AED certification is a plus.
