Extrusion Operator, Sr. sets up and operates an extrusion machine in accordance with established procedures, guidelines, and customer requirements. Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position, and secure machinery. Being an Extrusion Operator, Sr. adjusts and cleans machines. Documents work performed as required. Additionally, Extrusion Operator, Sr. may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Extrusion Operator, Sr. works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Key responsibilities and activities
- Monitors extrusion machine start up and operation duties to maximize efficiencies and achieve production goals for the shift.
- Ensures material is flowing through the production equipment continuously to maintain a quality product.
- Inspects output to ensure the quality of the materials produced.
- Provides leadership in identifying production and quality issues and effectively resolving them.
- Maintains records of production and variances as requested.
- Checks equipment to ensure it is functioning properly. Notifies supervision or maintenance if there are any unusual conditions, mechanical or electrical failures, malfunctions or adjustments, cleaning or repairs of production equipment is needed during the production shift.
- Communicates with previous shift, and supervision to exchange information on process conditions or other important issues.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA Safety and Health rules and wears personal protective equipment at all times as required.
