Facilities Director manages the maintenance, construction, repair, and refurbishment operations of one or more facilities or properties. Implements policies and procedures that ensure the optimal functioning of buildings, grounds, and associated equipment. Being a Facilities Director monitors daily building operations of all systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management to ensure reliability. Tracks work orders for quality, adherence to service standards, and budgeted guidelines. Additionally, Facilities Director directs training of managers, supervisors, and employees in best practices for maintenance work, service and safety standards, and local laws and regulations. Oversees vendors or contractors engaged for construction projects. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Facilities Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Facilities Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Director of Facilities: Full time. 12 month position. Previous facilities management experience required. Special consideration will be given to applications with school-based experience. Candidate must have knowledge of all building mechanical systems; Federal and State compliance with applicable regulations and regulatory bodies, such as OSHA and DEEP; personnel management; and experience with budgeting procedures.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive facilities management plan aligned with the district's goals and objectives.
    • Long Range Capital Planning: Develops and maintains long range facilities and equipment plans for the District, including a 10 year capital construction plan.
    • Capital Project Management: Participates in the planning, development, construction, and close-out phases of capital construction projects from start to finish. This includes tasks like bidding, scheduling and coordination. Understanding how State and Federal grants operate is crucial for funding such projects effectively.
    • Maintenance and Repairs: Coordinate and schedule routine maintenance, repairs, and renovations for school buildings, grounds and equipment.
    • Budget Management: Develop, monitor, and manage the facilities budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining safety and quality standards.
    • Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to facilities, health, and safety. This includes aspects like asbestos, water quality testing, radon, fire and life safety, boilers and HVAC equipment, vehicle and equipment inspections and registrations, indoor air quality, and security infrastructure.
    • Vendor Relations: Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and service providers to maintain facilities efficiently. Oversee work performed by vendors for quality outcomes.
    • Space Utilization: Optimize space utilization, including classroom allocation, event planning, and facility scheduling. Oversee community use of school buildings.
    • Energy Efficiency and Sustainability: Implement sustainable practices to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
    • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and oversee emergency response plans for facilities in coordination with the local officials.
    • Weather related incidents: Serve as the point of contact for the Superintendent during the weather incidents.
    • Personnel Management: Supervise, evaluate, manage, and provide staff development and training to the maintenance and custodial staff.
    • Other Duties: Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent.

    Required:

    • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, facilities management, construction management, architecture, or related field.
    • Minimum five (5) years' experience in facilities and operational oversight, preferably in public education; or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
    • High levels of computer and communication skills, along with a working knowledge of finance and administration.
    • Supervisory experience required.

    Compensation: Salary range $135, 000 - $145,000. Salary commensurate with degree and experience and includes a generous fringe benefit package.

    Reports to: Superintendent of Schools

    Start Date: On or about July 1, 2024 (Negotiable)
