    The salary range listed is for a Fire Prevention Trainee. After successful completion of required certifications, compensation will transition to the appropriate step plan salary structure.

    Eligibility Requirements

    The eligibility requirements to be a City of Arlington Fire Prevention Inspector Trainee are established by the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 143 and the City of Arlington's Fire Department Civil Service Commission Local Rules. The following represents part of these initial eligibility requirements.

    Applicants must:

    • Possess the following educational credentials prior to the first day of employment (do not submit these documents with your pre-registration online application) a high school diploma or a high school equivalency certificate (GED).
    • Be a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization.
    • Be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
    • Be at least 21 to 45 years of age at the time of testing. Must have reached 21 years of age as of the date of the exam, and not have reached 46 years of age as of the date of the appointment. Applicants must be 21 years of age to be appointed.
    • Be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) and/or other criminal background check(s).
    • By completing this application, applicant acknowledges that a preference may be given to those holding any relevant existing certifications.

    Complete an online City of Arlington Fire Prevention Inspector Trainee Exam Application by Wednesday, March 27, 2024. After submitting the completed application, if you are qualified to take the exam, an email will be sent with additional details and instructions for the test.

    Please review the list of disqualifications – – Causes for Disqualification. Prior to submitting your application, you will be asked to acknowledge that you have read these.

    An applicant may be eligible for 5 (five) additional points on their passing score if they have served a minimum of 180 consecutive days on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States, and received an honorable discharge or has a letter from their Battalion Commander or equivalent or higher, stating that they will ETS (Expiration Term of Service) within 90 days of employment and has the expectation of receiving an honorable discharge if:

    • An “Honorable” discharge was received (General discharges under honorable conditions, etc. are not eligible).
    • Attach a DD-214 to their applicant profile
    • Official letter from Battalion Commander or equivalent
