The Town of Concord is seeking Program Instructors to lead leisure activities for groups of students of all ages, at various times and varying days of the week. This position requires considerable experience in a specialized skill area or hobby with experience teaching and leading others in learning the skill or specialty area. Program Instructors are responsible for the overall leading and teaching of the skill to registered customers. Programs could take place at various locations including, camps, aquatic centers, public schools, parks, and more. Pay range: $20.00-$45.00 per hour; starting pay will depend on qualifications.

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    Under the general supervision of the Assistant Recreation Director, Program Instructors lead leisure activities for groups of students, of all ages, at various times and varying days of the week. Program Instructors are responsible for the overall leading and teaching of the skill to registered customers. Programs could take place at various locations including, camps, aquatic centers, public schools, parks, and more.

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.

    • Works with Recreation staff to coordinate programs for each seasonal brochure based on instructor skill sets and interest areas.
    • Works independently on program planning and coordination under general direction and supervision of Recreation Staff.
    • Instructs and demonstrates correct and safe techniques to successfully perform the activity.
    • Assures all participants follow rules and policies set by the Recreation Department.
    • Follows all safety standards and evacuation procedures.
    • Maintains an open line of communication with Recreation Division staff regarding all situations concerning the program, participants, parents/caregivers and other staff.
    • Follows all attendance sign in/sign out policies.
    • Oversees the maintenance of all supplies for each program, keeping the storage space, classrooms, and fields tidy at all times.
    • Builds effective relationships with participants and parents/caregivers.
    • Works flexible hours as program needs arise.
    • Assists in various departments or programs as the need arises.
    • Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested; performs other related duties as required, directed or as the situation dictates.
    • Assures that actions and words are professional, service focused, family centered, and respectful at all times.

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • 3-4 years of high school; advanced education in related field preferred.
    • Experience teaching or running sports and recreation programs preferred.
    • CPR and first aid certified preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • A personality and character that exudes flexibility, trustworthiness, creativity, and positivity.
    • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
    • A tremendous work ethic.
    • Ability to work autonomously as well as take action as needed.
    • Confidence and positive presence in both group and one-on-one settings.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Must agree to and pass a CORI and SORI Background Check, the cost of which will be borne by the Town.

    WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, talk and hear. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required; must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work may be performed outdoors and/or in an atypical environment subject to moderate variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.
