Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Detailed Job Description
    Position Summary:
    The Associate Director of Foundation Relations works closely with university senior administrators, department leadership and faculty to raise the necessary support for identified priorities. Reporting to the Executive Director of Foundation Relations, this individual focuses on cultivation of private foundations. The Associate Director of Foundation Relations works collaboratively with the institute-wide University Advancement team on behalf of RIT, and continuously seeks ways to increase effectiveness and efficiency. This position offers the right candidate opportunity to grow and advance at a world-class university that is rapidly growing and transforming the world around us.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Manage a portfolio of minimum 50 prospects.
    • Become a subject matter expert in key areas and develop a strong working knowledge of the history, current goals, priorities, and strengths of the university.
    • Develop and cultivate relationships with private and family foundations.
    • Work strategically with university senior leaders, faculty and staff to develop proposal submission strategies for those prospects.
    • Solicit foundation grants and gifts in the $100,000 range, including writing, creating, and editing proposal materials; coordinating effective grant management; developing stewardship plans; and writing and developing materials to meet grant reporting requirements.
    • Responsible for maintaining and updating Advance data management system.
    • Represent Foundation Relations at various training opportunities, workshops, and events on- and off-campus

    Required Minimum Qualifications
    • Minimum of 5 years of successful foundation relationship development, engagement, and stewardship or customer-centered constituent engagement, creative/technical writing experience, or other transferable experience
    • Excellent written, oral communication, and basic and applied math skills
    • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
    • Sophisticated interpersonal and project management skills
    • Interest in learning
    • High degree of computer literacy
    • Willingness to travel
