    General Responsibilities:
    Terracon is hiring an Environmental Site Investigation and Remediation (SIRem) Group Manager for our team of environmental professionals in the Charlotte, North Carolina office. As the SIRem Group Manager, you will work closely with the Environmental Department Manager and will supervise a team of scientist, geologists, and engineers to ensure that work is performed on time and on budget according to our client's requirements, regulatory guidance, and our company policies, procedures, and standards.

    The SIRem Group Manager will utilize their wealth of experience in environmental consulting to direct staff, prepare and review reports documenting performance of site investigation and remediation scopes of work, and will coach and mentor junior staff on quality data generation and reporting. You and your team will work together to prepare winning proposals, cost estimates, bid specifications, and provide complicated scopes of work to address client needs for site investigation and remediation services.

    The ideal candidate will be able to evaluate and interpret subsurface field and sampling data - including soil, groundwater, and air - to develop conclusions concerning the environmental and geologic site conditions. Generate subsurface maps and cross-sections and collaborate with engineering and environmental scientist staff on projects. Oversee field monitoring and testing of soils including boring investigations and soil type classification. Interpret soil, bedrock, and groundwater elevation and quality data. Prepare written plans and reports related to site investigations, assessments, and remediation activities. Projects may include well design and sampling; environmental assessments including Phase I/II site assessments; Brownfields site applications, approvals, management plans, vapor intrusion mitigation plan development and designs, and pre/post-occupancy sampling requirements as directed by the NCDEQ; Underground storage tank and aboveground storage tank incident assessments and development of corrective actions; Chlorinated solvent impacted site assessment, corrective action, and remediation.

    As a supervisor, you will have the opportunity to lead the daily operations of a growing team including safety, staff training & development, performance conversations, utilization of equipment and facilities, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of services and deliverables, and overall quality and client experience. You will also get the opportunity to work with the office leadership team to develop a business development strategy for your group with the goal of growing the practice. Our Group Managers also participate in business development activities with the office leadership team to identify, develop, win, and execute exciting project opportunities while continuing to build and maintain client relationships. This position offers the opportunity to grow and develop Terracon's position for additional SIRem work locally and regionally.

    Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
    • Lead safety efforts and ensure your group follows safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment, demonstrating safety practices, and promoting pre-task planning for all projects.
    • Prepare proposals and cost estimates.
    • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
    • Supervise and/or perform site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
    • Supervise the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.
    • Supervise water, soil, air, and other sampling.
    • Prepare reports documenting the findings of investigations and communicating findings and recommendations to clients.
    • Develop and prepare corrective action plans and remedial action plans.
    • Review technical reports prepared by group members to ensure quality and accuracy of reported findings.
    • Manage, mentor, and develop junior staff.
    • With support from the Department/Office Manager perform business and client development activities.
    • With support from the Department/Office Manager develop and manage employee staffing plans, recruitment, selection and on-boarding.
    • With support from the Department/Office Manager prepare and execute annual business plan for the Group.
    • With support from the Department/Office Manager oversee and manage the success of the key Group metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
    • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the company. Be familiar with company risk policies.
    • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 12 years of SIRem experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 17 years SIRem experience. At least 5 years of previous supervisory experience demonstrating the ability to successfully lead staff.
    • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
    Preferred Certification:
    • Licensed Professional Engineer or Geologist in the state of North Carolina or the ability to obtain licensure within 6-months.
