General Maintenance Worker maintains, services, and conducts minor repairs on buildings and equipment. Performs a variety of semiskilled duties in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, or plastering. Being a General Maintenance Worker assists maintenance engineers and other workers with their tasks. Complies with established safety guidelines and procedures. Additionally, General Maintenance Worker may require a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The General Maintenance Worker works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. General Maintenance Worker is a physically demanding job requiring the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis, stand or walk for up to 2 hours at a time and up to 7 hours per day. It also requires periodically being on-call and responding to after-hours emergencies, working in confined spaces, and working outside in all weather conditions.
This position performs a variety of duties related to the upkeep and maintenance of District equipment, infrastructure, and facilities including:
Candidates with a CDL tanker certification are preferred, however, those candidates that don't possess a CDL will be given the opportunity to obtain one within 11 months of hire. This position is subject to DOT random drug and alcohol testing. It also requires a safe driving record and the ability to be covered by District vehicle insurance. The position requires the ability to use computers to dispatch JULIE locates, enter work orders and requisitions, and use a GIS system.
All employees must either live within or relocate to within 20 miles of the District boundaries within 11 months of hire. A map of the boundaries and additional job information may be found on the website.
