Genetics Counselor jobs in Idaho
Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. Position Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting with data collection and report writing for conservation genetic, genomic and molecular ecology projects in the Laboratory for Ecological, Evolutionary and Conservation Genetics. The employee will also maintain inventories and assist with training of students or visiting scientists.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS degree in biology, genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, wildlife science or related field
Following pre-established procedures or protocols
Analyzing scientific data
Keeping complete and accurate records
Working in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
MS degree in biology, genetics, molecular biology or related field
Two or more years experience working in molecular genetics lab
Experience with scientific report writing or publication
Genomic laboratory methods experience
Bioinformatics experience
Experience with extracting DNA from hair, feces or other environmental DNA samples
Experience with standard population genetic analyses
Experience with microsatellite allele calling
Experience working with low quality DNA samples and/or experience working in a Biosafety Level II laboratory.
DNA extraction experience
PCR set-up experience
Collecting and recording data following pre-established procedures or protocols
Keeping complete accurate records in a research setting
Experience working with basic molecular laboratory equipment like pipettes, centrifuges and heat blocks.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move items weighing up to 40lbs
