Genetics Counselor jobs in Oregon

Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice.     Position Summary
    This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Genetics Laboratory Technician positions for Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon State University (OSU).

    We are looking for a responsible applicant who is looking to gain skills in wildlife genetics research. Our lab uses various methods of non-invasive monitoring to detect species from a host of environmental samples. This is an entry-level position with room to grow and gain valuable skills in molecular research.

    Position Duties
    • Main duties will be sampling of carnivore scats in a sterile manner and preparing them for DNA extraction.
    • Candidate will also be tasked with cleaning and sterilizing labware.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
    • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
    • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
      • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
      • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
      • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
      • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
      • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

    • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
