    Your Opportunity

    We are looking to add a full time Geotechnical/Civil Engineer to our Albany, NY office. The successful candidate will build on their existing technical knowledge base to work on challenging and diverse geotechnical engineering tasks in support of transportation, building and water projects. Projects may include specialized services such as analysis and design of shallow and deep foundation elements for bridges and/or buildings, slope stability analysis, ground improvement design, and support of stream channel restoration work as well as the potential to work with other groups within Stantec on other geotechnical related work.

    You will perform a variety of tasks which may include client and team coordination, lead weekly team meetings, prepare and review calculations and reports, attend site visits and client presentations, and mentoring staff. The projects assigned may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge and experience. You will lead the analysis of proposed projects to ensure structural reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

    You will be working in conjunction with other engineers and on multi-disciplinary teams to support project development including field investigations, feasibility studies, detailed design and construction support. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and with small and large teams to apply critical thinking skills to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. The position will require travel to project sites and will provide stimulating career growth opportunities including mentoring of less experienced staff.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
    • Grow internal and external networks to enhance Stantec’s reputation and identify additional talent to join our team.
    • Assist Project Technical Leads and Project Managers in establishing project objectives, procedures, and performance standards, and lead multi-disciplinary teams on proposals, planning studies, feasibility through final designs, and construction services for geotechnical engineering projects.
    • Manage and lead other team members, which could be local or regional, while working on other projects, completing tasks, and delegating specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.
    • Conduct and/or review analyses and develop engineering calculation packages.
    • Provide mentoring and training for junior staff.
    • Develop client relationships to facilitate project activities.
    • Promote collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.
    • Serve as Engineer-of-Record on projects and reports.
    • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
    • Engage in professional organizations that align with expertise, authoring technical papers and delivering technical presentations for conference and symposia events.
    • Provide support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and contract document clarifications.
    • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the work elements designed by your discipline group and interact with other Stantec teams for various sized projects locally and across North America.

    • Ability to lead technical teams and collaborate in a project team setting and interact with clients daily.
    • Excellent time management skills with the ability to understand project and team roles and scheduling, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
    • Understanding client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high-quality deliverables.
    • Strong understanding and technical ability in producing and leading teams through all phases of a design project (proposal, calculations, construction drawings, and final reports)
    • An understanding of state and federal regulations and the ability to adapt to client-specific requirements.
    • Efficient project management/technical leadership of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
    • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage up to two or three direct team members.
    • Excellent team-building skills and a willingness to work on multiple teams/disciplines with varying backgrounds.
    • Strong knowledge of civil and geotechnical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
    • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar materials.
    • Basic experience in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with (but not required) AutoCAD Civil3D; Microstation; InRoads/OpenRoads; Geostudio Software Suite; ENSOFT LPILE, GROUP, and A-Pile; GRL/WEAP; gINT; ProSheet; Mathcad; and other industry common software.
    • Provide support in permitting process of projects, if needed.
    • Travel/Fieldwork 10% to 25% of the time for project meetings and site visits/investigations.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
    • Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one jurisdiction (NYS preferred) with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other US Northeastern states.
    • Minimum of 8 of experience.
    • Preferred NYSDOT and NYSTA, experience.

    Flexible office and field arrangements depending on project activities. Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Fieldwork may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

    Salary Range(s):

    • $84,900 - $123,100 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

    The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
