    Primary Function:
    The Proposal Writer is an integrated member of the sales and estimating team. The position has overarching responsibility for the development of compliant and compelling proposals in response to customer generated Request for Proposals (RFP’s).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Leads the development of bid/no-bid recommendations.
    • Reviews RFP’s and identifies requirements to be addressed in each proposal.
    • Leads the sales and estimating team in the development of the bid strategy and win themes to be incorporated into each proposal.
    • Works closely with sales, estimating, functional departments, sub-contractors, and potential partners to compile the information required to prepare a proposal.
    • Tracks the progress of proposals through the estimating process to ensure that deadlines are met.
    • Leads the preparation of compelling technical and commercial proposals in accordance with customer RFP requirements.
    • Creates schedules in MS Project for submission with proposals.
    • Actively participates in pricing committee meetings including navigating displayed documents and capturing clarifications that need to be incorporated into the proposal.
    • Assist Account Managers in the performance of their duties when they are on travel. This includes representing the Account Manager in pricing committee meetings and communicating with clients, as required.
    • Leads weekly team meetings when the Business Unit Manager is on travel.
    • Develops and maintain a repository for historic proposals and content that can be used as a library for future proposals.
    • Provides guidance and mentorship for less experienced proposal team members.

    Qualifications/Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years’ direct work experience as a proposal writer and Bachelor's degree in Marketing, English, Public Relations or similar OR combination of education and experience.
    • Proficient with computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and Adobe Creative Cloud
    • Works well alone and in a team environment.
    • Meticulous attention to detail.
    • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent planning, time management, and organizational skills.

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit in a stationary position for extended periods of time while working at a computer. The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet – typical of what is generally found in an office setting. The employee will occasionally find it necessary to enter a manufacturing environment. The manufacturing environment is typical of that type of setting – employees may be exposed to inclement weather, loud noises, tripping hazards; and there may be exposure to sparks, welding arc, open flame, and moving equipment.
