Commercial Marketing Underwriter

Do you have experience driving the acquisition of profitable new business by accepting, modifying, or rejecting various Commercial new business risk? As a Commercial Marketing Underwriter, you are responsible for exercising underwriting judgments to determine rate and risk selection for the Commercial line business.  You’ll be making modifications, rejections, and cancellations in accordance with our policy. The Commercial Marketing Underwriter is responsible for driving the acquisition of profitable new business through leads and fieldwork. To be successful as a Farm Bureau Commercial Marketing Underwriter you must have excellent communication skills, superior problem-solving skills, and be able to work independently.

What you’ll do:

•  Define, implement, and monitor a client service strategy.
• Partner with business center directors to support alignment of commercial operations.
• Achieve business unit goals for client service, growth, loss ratio, and efficient operations within a defined territory.
• Collaborate with Farm Bureau agents working with both perspective and current client members.
• Assist agency staff in selecting and writing profitable commercial business for Farm Bureau Financial Services.
• Manage assigned underwriting tasks to identify business trends, ensure profitability and build relationships, through underwriting new business.
• Contribute to the profitability of Farm Bureau Financial Services by effectively accepting, modifying, or rejecting various commercial new business risk, and through the understanding of adherence to our reinsurance contracts.
• Adhere to underwriting guidelines and best practices and maintain an acceptable quality audit score to ensure profitable growth of commercial business unit.

What it takes to join our team:

• College degree or equivalent plus five years of relevant insurance experience required. Marketing and/or Underwriting experience preferred. 
• Required skills include customer service, team orientation, interpersonal and technical / business / industry regulations related skills.
• Must have excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
• Must keep up-to-date regarding local, state and federal rules and regulations to insure government compliance and meet company guidelines.
• Ability to work under pressure and shift priorities to achieve corporate and business unit goals.
• Must be able to meet deadlines.
• Microsoft Word and Excel skills preferred.
• Travel required (approx. 50% ( )) including overnight and must be able to work under all kinds of weather conditions.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record according to Fleet Safety guidelines.
• Oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
• Reasonably regular and predictable attendance.
