HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Position: Mechanic

    Location: USA | Scottsbluff, Nebraska

    This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.

    Responsibilities

    • Trailer Equipment repair, DOT inspections, and required preventative maintenance of company trailers
    • Perform DOT inspections on Owner Operator tractors.
    • Interprets technical manuals.
    • Diagnoses and performs repairs on company equipment
    • Installs in-truck communication systems in contractor trucks.
    • Repairs or replaces defective parts, components or systems.
    • Ensure the safety of shop personnel by following OSHA regulations, standard work and Non routine task reviews.
    • Active participation and utilization of all operational excellence tools available. Metrics on fleet utilization is key metric. Use of lean tools to improve processes is expected.

    Qualifications

    Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.  Commercial Driver’s License required.

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

    • Proven mechanical abilities with commercial trucks and trailers.
    • Electrical (12V) troubleshooting and repairs.
    • Brakes, and axle component’s repair and replace
    • Welding of all kinds of steel and aluminum.
    • CDL for operation of local shop truck for local delivery and pickup as needed.
    • Effective communication with drivers and co-workers.
    • Prioritize work/repairs to keep freight moving.

    Knowledge of the English language and advanced mechanical skills relating trucks and trailers is required.    Lean (Operational Excellence) background a definite plusKnowledge of computers and ability to learn, use and troubleshoot computer programs utilized by Ameri-Co is required.  (Excel, Word, Outlook, Oracle, etc.)

     

    While performing the duties of this job, an employee is typically required to have the ability to work in a Maintenance shop environment, exert physical strength throughout the work shift, coordinate movements, use repetitive motions, regularly stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, reach, crouch, kneel, lift, twist, push and pull throughout a work shift, have manual dexterity, lift materials weighing up to and including 50 pounds, select and use appropriate equipment/tools to accomplish job duties, read, write, listen, speak and understand English, follow all instructions and other oral/written information, visually inspect equipment/work area, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately, identify, analyze, troubleshoot and solve equipment/work area issues using judgement and mechanical/DOT knowledge and skills, react quickly as needed, use judgement to determine when additional resources are needed to address issues, communicate effectively with others, record labor distribution information from the work shift, be aware of oneself in relation to surrounding equipment, work independently and as a team with others, and use, monitor and adjust equipment and related processes. Ability to instruct/transfer job information/knowledge to others is preferred.

    Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a trailer maintenance shop environment, moving around the shop as needed, using shop equipment as required.  Constant contact with individuals internal and external to the organization occurs via various methods of communication typically including face-to-face discussions, & phone calls. There will be exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from maintenance processes.  Exposure to shop areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment.  Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.

    The employee is expected to be self-directed, take initiative and be persistent when appropriate to accomplish necessary duties and keep busy without prompting.  Additionally, the employee is expected to be adaptable/flexible to changing work assignments, have a high level of integrity, motivate and lead others/provide direction, have dependability and self-control to maintain composure, perform multiple tasks at once, learn and memorize procedures, manage time effectively and efficiently, meet established deadlines, display a cooperative demeanor, read, understand and follow all company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.  Ability to travel is required.Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training from a qualified individual, which consists of classroom training and may include a tour of plant area(s). Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate and/or as dictated by OSHA regulations
