Head Cataloging Librarian develops cataloging policies and procedures and implements improvement. Manages staff and student assistants in all formats cataloging following updated workflows. Being a Head Cataloging Librarian creates metadata schema to ensure efficient workflow for metadata projects. Typically requires a master's degree. Additionally, Head Cataloging Librarian typically reports to top management. The Head Cataloging Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Cataloging Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Temporary Cataloging Librarian, Faculty Rank


    Duties
    The Temporary Cataloging Librarian operates under the authority of the Director of the Commonwealth University Libraries.
    • Performing original cataloging and/or classification of print and/or non-print materials utilizing OCLC
    • Performing complex copy cataloging
    • Performing database maintenance of the online catalog
    • Collaborate with other Cataloging faculty and staff
    • Keeping informed about current events in the Library profession that are pertinent to job responsibilities
    • Participating in assigned liaison responsibilities with academic departments as needed
    • Cooperating as a team member with other librarians and staff in performing other professional duties as directed by the Director of the Commonwealth University Libraries

    Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)
    Required:
    • ALA-accredited Masters degree
    • Minimum of 1 year experience directly related to cataloging
    • Working knowledge of both the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal Classification systems and Library of Congress Subject Headings
    • Finalists must successfully complete an interview, which may include a cataloging demonstration

    Preferred:
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
    • Prior academic library experience

    Background Clearances
    Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
