Head Cataloging Librarian develops cataloging policies and procedures and implements improvement. Manages staff and student assistants in all formats cataloging following updated workflows. Being a Head Cataloging Librarian creates metadata schema to ensure efficient workflow for metadata projects. Typically requires a master's degree. Additionally, Head Cataloging Librarian typically reports to top management. The Head Cataloging Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Cataloging Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Position Summary:

    The Children's Librarian works alongside members of the Library Operations Team and with other key stakeholders to develop policies, procedures, workflows and sustainable approaches for a variety of library programs and services. With oversight from the Library Director, the Children's Librarians works both independently and with other staff to execute small to large scale projects. The Children's Librarian is responsible for the maintenance of the the children's collection and the development and execution of significant weekly programming for ages 0 - 12.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

    An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

    • Coordinates and implements a variety of weekly and special programs of interest to children ages 0 - 12 and their families

    • Takes a leading role in the planning and implementation of the Summer Reading Program

    • Develops programs and offers resources that support parents as literacy role models for their children

    • Develops and maintains partnerships with local schools and other community stakeholders

    • Provides reference, circulation, and computer help to customers

    • Serves as a member or chair of committees for program planning and other initiatives

    • Provides some shift supervision for opening or closing shifts on evenings or weekends

    • Manages display, promotion, and deselection of the children's collection

    • Has a deep knowledge of historic and current children's literature and stays abreast of new publications

    • Acts as direct supervisor for the Children's Assistant (Library Associate 3) which includes managing performance, evaluation,

    interviewing/hiring, training and approving timesheets

    • Knows and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read

    Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet

    of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at the Simi Valley Public Library

    • Follows all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records

    • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    MLS or MLIS degree required

    One year librarian experience preferred

    Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

    Knowledge of databases and digital resources

    Excellent customer service skills

    Excellent communication skills– both verbal and written

    Able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends

    Physical Requirements:

    Must be able to push up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials

    Must be able to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork

    Must be able to move from place to place within a 30,000 square foot building to help customers find materials

    Must be able to visit school sites and other outreach venues
