    Position Summary
    This Clinical Librarian position is part of an inter-departmental team of librarians who collaborate with clinicians and departments in the UNC Medical Center and UNC School of Medicine on information, education, and research. Working independently and as part of a team, the Clinical Librarian is integral in building relationships with clinicians, staff, and students and will identify information needs and maintain outreach to the UNC Medical Center. They provide expertise in information acquisition and integration, partner on systematic reviews (including as a co-author) and participate in educational initiatives. The Clinical Librarian is part of a team of librarians, functional specialists, support staff, and campus partners working to achieve the UNC Libraries mission to manage information and knowledge to advance health and health care.

    Principal responsibilities include:
    • Partners with clinical departments and UNC School of Medicine to support education, research, and health care.
    • Identifies needs, plans, and provides information and education to support evidence-based practice.
    • Works with faculty, fellows, residents, staff, and students to support patient care inquiries.
    • Provides information for departmental patient rounding teams, case presentations, seminars, journal clubs, and presentations.
    • Shares knowledge of patient education, consumer health, and health literacy tools. Designs and implements appropriate assessment of clinical services provided.
    • Develops and maintains expertise with content and information tools specific to clinical medicine and medical education, particularly in subjects relevant to assigned liaison departments.
    • Conducts in-depth expert literature searches for research projects, quality improvement projects, practice guidelines, systematic reviews, and clinical pathway development.
    • Participates in research teams to maximize scholarly quality and productivity and assists faculty and clinicians in disseminating research and information to serve the Medical Center, School of Medicine, and University’s missions.
    • Provides support for sustainable scholarship including knowledge of open access and open educational resources.
    • Recommends collection purchases that support clinical care, education, and research.
    • Pursues professional development, professional service activities, and publication as guided by the standards of the Library’s Committee on Appointments and Promotions.
    • Represents the Library in University-wide activities and in other venues, participates in other Library activities in support of our mission, and serves the university community as needed.
    This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement to include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
    Requires the Masters in Library Science (MLS) degree (or foreign degree equivalent). In specialized libraries, may substitute an advanced degree in the field of specialization (e.g., legal degree for a law library, or a history degree for a special historical collection within the library setting).

    Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
    ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science or advanced degree in a health-related discipline.
    Minimum 1 year experience working in a health sciences library or other health setting.
    Experience conducting in-depth information searches using health sciences-specific databases and other sources.
    Experience providing instruction in an academic or clinical setting.
    Excellent oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
    Ability to work independently and excel in a dynamic, collaborative, team-based environment.
    Demonstrated commitment to professional development and service through publication and/or active membership in professional organizations.
    Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse user communities, including students, faculty, researchers, colleagues, and community members

    Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
    Experience providing clinical information services to diverse groups.
    Experience providing search and knowledge management support for systematic review and clinical guideline teams.
    Experience synthesizing medical information from a variety of sources, including synthesis of targeted clinical literature search results in a short time frame.
    Ability to multitask and set priorities in a dynamic environment.
    Commitment to innovation, flexibility, and willingness to explore and adopt new technologies and approaches.
    Knowledge of patient education, consumer health, and health literacy resources.
    Experience, certification, or degree in health informatics, public health, or other health care related field.
    Understanding of the clinical, translational, and quality improvement research processes.
    Knowledge of global health resources and/or experience supporting global health projects.
