Head Cataloging Librarian develops cataloging policies and procedures and implements improvement. Manages staff and student assistants in all formats cataloging following updated workflows. Being a Head Cataloging Librarian creates metadata schema to ensure efficient workflow for metadata projects. Typically requires a master's degree. Additionally, Head Cataloging Librarian typically reports to top management. The Head Cataloging Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Cataloging Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Part-Time Librarian

  • Summary of Position

    The Part-Time Librarian (2-3 days per week) is responsible for the day-to-day management of the campus library, the support of student learning and research and support of teachers in fulfilling their instructional duties. The ideal candidate has a degree in Library Sciences, or another related field, and has experience as a school librarian. The candidate should also have experience developing and documenting new curriculum.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Leads students by example and otherwise, adhering to the guidelines of the school Course of Study and Faculty Training Manual.
    • Organizes and maintains the school library.
    • Communicates with the administration, parents, and dorm parents regarding student progress.
    • Maintains a warm and positive environment in the library, while establishing and managing classroom rules and regulations.
    • Cares for and protects the safety of the students and is versed in emergency and disaster procedures. Is thoroughly advised and clear about role during emergency and disaster procedures, and provides leadership with emergency and disaster procedures.
    • Lectures, demonstrates, and teaches library research skills and subjects of special interest to classes.
    • Accompanies classes to special events and school functions.
    • Communicates with parents, dorm parents, and administration on a regular basis.
    • Displays student’s work around the library and in publications.
    • Maintains order and discipline in the library or location of supervision.
    • Selects books, audio/visual materials, and periodicals to be acquired by the library.
    • Reviews collection for balance up-to-datedness, and enrichment of the curriculum.
    • Keeps inventory of all library materials.
    • Teaches student library skills
    • Revises and updates automated library system.
    • Co-chairs Library and Literacy Committee, if applicable.
    • Arranges presentations by storytellers and authors.
    • Runs two Book Fairs during the school year.
    • Supports and participates in the Outdoor Education Program.
    • Prepare a presentation for an All School assembly.
    • Accompany classes to special events and school functions.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; prior teaching experience required. Credential and experience with curriculum planning is preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate grades, and possesses basic skills to work with budgets.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    • Current CPR and First Aid preferred.
    • California Driver's License preferred.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    • Ability to use training and experience to teach children of all ages.
    • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
    • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
    • Ability to supervise children of all ages.
    • Ability to relate to one’s peers.
