Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic School is a co-ed PreK-12 school in the Diocese of Austin. Located in Waco, Texas, BLR has a rich history of both athletic and academic excellence that spans over six decades.
Qualified candidates will be driven and inspired by the mission of Catholic Schools to develop young men and women in academic, athletic and spiritual leadership. Additionally, candidates should have 3 relevant years of coaching varsity-level soccer and be extremely detail oriented, collaborative, selfless, willing to collaborate with fellow campus coaches, respect campus, department and Diocesan policies, and organized with the unique ability to motivate and lead both coaches and athletes with strong character and integrity. Strong relationships within the greater Waco/Central Texas girls soccer community, along with ability to use computer software, knowledge of TAPPS regulations, and demonstrated related creativity desired.
Position Summary
The Girls Varsity Head Soccer Coach reports to the Athletic Director and is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the Bishop Louis Reicher Girls Soccer Program.
The head coach must provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in soccer. The candidate must contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so that they are successfully competitive. The candidate must be cooperative and respect all campus, department and Diocesan initiatives and policies.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Program Advancement
- Create a cohesive girls soccer program to unite both the lower and upper campuses
- Build relationships with student athletes to ensure adequate participation for assigned programs
- Execute player evaluations and team placement at the beginning of each season
- Collaborate with Bishop Louis Reicher Strength & Conditioning Coaches to design a sport-specific offseason and in-season training program for development of players
- Facilitate off-season and summer player development and research best practices for program development
- Extensive knowledge of Hudl and/or other film or video analysis software
- Ensure that all BLR soccer coaches work together towards common goals within the soccer program and provide unity with a structured feeder system
- Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices
- Annually establish and meet performance goals
- Adhere to all campus, department and Diocesan academic & eligibility policies
Community Engagement
- Routinely meet with assistant coaches, student-athletes and parents to ensure top notch program communication internally
- Meet with prospective families during the admissions process
- Assist the admissions office with any calls, emails, in-person tours or events that can positively impact the enrollment of the school and promotion of the girls soccer program
- Establish strong relationships with local youth soccer coaches, clubs, leagues and other key constituents to promote the benefits of being a BLR student-athlete
- Engage in community activities in the Waco area and surrounding communities that may benefit the girls soccer program and athlete development
- Be an advocate for student athletes and communicate needs, concerns or requests effectively between coaches and teachers
- Assist in organizing event promotions to drive student attendance and participation at girls soccer games
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Establish strong relationships with college coaches recruiting BLR girls soccer players
- Support all other Athletics programs and Campus programs with professionalism and school spirit
- Engage in polite, collaborative, supportive and professional communication/dialogue and cordial conduct with all fellow BLR coaches, faculty, administration and personnel
Spiritual Formation
- Strong desire to work in a Christ-Centered environment and follower of Jesus Christ
- Equip and empower assistant coaches to be spiritual guides for student athletes
- Attend and participate in Mass and other community gatherings both on and off the school campus when available
- Encourage student athletes to integrate their faith on the soccer pitch and in their everyday lives
Management Skills
- Recruit, recommend for hire, and train all girls soccer assistant coaches at upper and lower levels
- Provide feedback to assistant coaches throughout the season regarding their performance in a professional manner
- Evaluate, mentor, and provide leadership to assistant coaches at upper and lower levels
- Lead the middle school and Intramurals girls soccer coaches to best train and coach athletes that will feed into the high school
- Ensure that all girls soccer coaches are compliant in TAPPS RankOne and Bound
- Ensure that all girls soccer coaches have turned in all required paperwork and certifications before first official practice
- Ensure that all girls soccer coaches, are EIM Compliant before first official practice
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship at upper and lower levels, including intramurals
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation in adherence to TAPPS, campus, department and Diocesan policies
Financial
- Oversee the girls soccer team budget, under the direction of the Athletic Director, Parent Association and Finance Director, to properly plan for program expenses, both short and long term
- Actively participate in school campaigns that raise funds for the athletic program as well as the overall organization
- Review athletic fees annually to ensure a positive athletic experience for all athletes in the soccer program
Scheduling
- Ensure timely and accurate athletic website updates to include both practice and game schedules via RankOne and Bound
- Assist coaches with workouts for team placement, competition schedules, and practice schedules and communicate those dates with parents, athletes and opponents
- Ensure timely communication with coaches, families, leagues, game officials, trainers, and opposing teams for all game schedules, changes and cancellations
Administrative and Other Responsibilities
- Inspect and recommend replacement and/or additions to ensure adequate facilities and equipment are available
- Assist in purchasing of new uniforms and equipment
- Seek out and create opportunities for campus engagement and community building
- Maintain professional development by attending training and clinics
- Assist in execution of girls soccer summer camps and clinics
- Assist in execution of athletic department fundraisers
- Assist in execution of offseason and in-season Strength & Conditioning Program
- Encourage girls soccer players to participate in additional athletics programs to support BLR Multi-Sport Philosophy
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
- Maintain a high level knowledge of all TAPPS and NCAA/NFHS rules
- Attend non-routine events such as district meetings, athletic banquets, clinics, retreats, staff formations, Mass, etc.
- Be able and willing to provide emergency care; maintain CPR-First-Aid-AED certifications; engage professional emergency personnel (911) if needed; know where automated external defibrillators (AED’s) are located on campus
- Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to foster, apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic High School student handbook
- Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all girls soccer equipment including the locker room
- Adhere to all BLR Athletics Handbook Policies
