Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and intensive care unit staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of intensive care unit patient clinical records. Being a Head Nurse - Intensive Care Unit manages inventory of solutions, supplies, medicines, narcotics, and equipment according to hospital policies, procedures and regulations. Evaluates intensive care unit staff performance and quality of service. Additionally, Head Nurse - Intensive Care Unit coaches and develops nursing staff. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Typically requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Intensive Care Unit manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team!

     

    JOB SUMMARY:         Provides direct and indirect patient care in the hospital setting. Communicates with physicians/nurse manager/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient’s condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision to include the duties of the Registered Nurse.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Intensive Care RN:

    • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric and the general adult patient population.
    • Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
    • Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
    • Ability to perform glucometer testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures.
    • Ability to interpret results of laboratory tests including following any protocols and notification of providers.
    • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
    • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
    • Follow the five medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors. Scanning of medications in the electronic record is an expectation for safety except in emergency scenarios.

    Qualifications


    Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited RN program.

    Current RN licensure in the state of Idaho. Current BLS. Successful completion of ACLS course within 6 months of hire and renewal every 2 years prior to expiration. Complete a basic dysrhythmia class with a grade of 84% or higher within 6 weeks of hire date, if no prior telemetry experience. If prior telemetry experience and previous course has been taken a test may be taken to demonstrate competency. PALS is recommended.

    Experience: ICU experience is preferred. 2 years of Med/Surg experience is recommended

    Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge.

    Language/Communication: Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak English. Ability to communicate in a professional manner with patients, families, coworkers, physicians, and leadership.
