Head Nurse - Occupational Health directs nursing service activities for occupational health services. Develops and conducts training programs to promote employee safety in the workplace. Being a Head Nurse - Occupational Health conducts regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify any health or safety hazards. Maintains records, investigates accidents and injuries, prepares appropriate reports for OSHA, and ensures compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations. Additionally, Head Nurse - Occupational Health coordinates the procurement, review, and project management of contracts and service agreements with outside vendors. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Occupational Health manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.   • We are looking for a full-time Occupational Health Nurse (RN) to support our client site in Boise, ID. 
    The Occupational Health Nurse employs best practices that require early intervention and the setting of realistic expectations for disability duration, return-to-work, and return to functionality. Care coordination is a collaborative process that promotes quality of health care, client empowerment, and cost containment by supporting proactive intervention and reducing redundancies.

    The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing injury and illness case management and assisting with other occupational and environmental health services, as needed, while maintaining a professional and patient centered approach in an occupational setting. Travel to participate in Company initiatives can be supported as needed.

    Responsibilities: 
    • Acts as an advocate for the injured worker with all parties while maintaining the injured worker’s privacy and safety. As an advocate for the injured/ill worker in the compensation process, the case manager provides support, information, and education to improve employees’ knowledge about their health and self-care, and enhances their understanding of the health care treatment plan and  process.
    • Interacts with WorkCare staff, client site management and safety staff, local medical providers and other designated personnel for proper initiation and follow-up of work-related injuries and illnesses.
    • Assesses and collects data regarding risk factors for delayed recovery and determines the impact on care, recovery and return to work.  Generates creative solutions to minimize or eliminate obstacles which prevent or delay return-to-work (RTW).
    • Works collaboratively with employee and providers to set return-to-work (RTW) goals, including expected return-to-work date. Works with medical providers to track progress and modify treatment plan until maximum medical improvement is achieved. Assures return-to-work clearances are safe and appropriate for all occupational illnesses/injuries.
    • Provides acute injury case management for injured workers in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner, Consulting Medical Director, Environmental Health & Safety, and Third-Party Administrator.
    • Serves as a liaison between medical providers and injured workers to expedite appropriate medical treatment and communications with Workers’ Compensation management team.
    • Proactively manages all active claims to monitor progress of treatment, prevent lapses or delays in treatment, and assist with facilitation of injured worker’s return to work.
    • Maintains all case documents/files ensuring a comprehensive and detailed source of information for all parties involved in the case.
    • Submits and coordinates patient referrals from Nurse Practitioner or Consulting Medical Director to outside providers for treatment and/or diagnostic testing.
    • Facilitates weekly telephone or onsite active case review meetings with Nurse Practitioner, Consulting Medical Director, and Client.
    • Ensures that the injured employee understands the plan of care and injury claim process.
    • Works with injured employees, supervisors, HR, and other client safety team personnel to ensure that ordered activity restrictions are instituted and followed.

    Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Collaborates with Nurse Practitioner and Consulting Medical Director to create clinical procedures and policies as needed.
    • Provides first-aid, medical treatment, and appropriate follow-up to occupationally ill/injured workers consistent with appropriate standards and laws.
    • Provides first-aid, medical treatment, and appropriate follow-up for non-occupational care consistent with appropriate standards for an employer onsite clinic and laws.
    • Provides emergency medical response during business hours.
    • Performs regulatory testing, TB tests, immunizations, blood draws, drug testing if required.
    • Performs wellness-based testing and screening such as bio-metric (blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, etc.) screening, flu shots, and coaching for programs such as smoking cessation, weight-loss and other company specific campaigns or seasonal programs such as allergy prevention including education and vaccines.
    • Coordinates employee health screening and surveillance programs including new hire, fit-for-duty, return-to-work, medical surveillance, pulmonary function, hearing tests, exit exams and substance of abuse screenings.
    • Coordinates travel care and vaccinations to support global travel.
    • Provides return-to-work clearances as appropriate.
    • Provides counseling to employees on employment risk reduction initiatives.
    • Provides ergonomic evaluations and/or work with ergonomist on resolving ergonomic issues with client employees.
    • Other tasks as requested by Nurse Practitioner, Consulting Medical Director or Regional Account Manager.
    Education and Experience:
    • Must hold a compact RN license in the state of Idaho, in good standing.
    • Must be CPR and AED certified.
    • Minimum 2-3 years' experience in Case Management/Workers' Compensation processes in Idaho preferred.
    • Case Management certification preferred.
    • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing, preferred.

    This is a full-time position and will work from our on-site clinic in Boise, ID.

    Final compensation offered depends on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
