Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Mission West Virginia’s THINK Program is seeking multiple full time Health Educator in Cabell, Boone , and Kanawha Counties.

    The Educator will deliver effective program instruction using specified curriculum and provide group and educational services for participants of the THINK program.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Effectively deliver teen pregnancy prevention and healthy relationship curricula for program participants, reinforcing age-appropriate language, trauma informed messaging, and medically accurate instructional strategies.
    • Complete all required training annually as directed by supervisor.
    • Ensure that enrollment forms, attendance data, assessments, and referrals are entered into the THINK data system, OPTS.
    • Assist the Program Manager in identifying and securing middle and high schools and community- based sites to host educational programming for project youth.
    • Assist in coordinating special events, including the youth rallies.
    • Assist in presenting topics related to teen health (outside of the curriculum classes) to students, school administration, parents, parents/caregivers, and community members.
    • Prepare reports, as required.
    • Develop and maintain project resources.
    • Attending national and state trainings as directed by the supervisor.
    • Attend scheduled community meetings and events as directed by supervisor.
    • Follow all requirements and guidelines of the program funder under the guidance of supervisor.
    • Make necessary referrals for students who identify emergency needs or require assistance.

    Job descriptions, duties and specifics may be revised based upon changes with programs and funding sources. Employee may perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Health, Sociology, Social Work, Human Services or Education preferred, however other degrees will be considered. Must have had experience leading or instructing a group. Hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

    Other Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to learn new data management programs. Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, and social groups. Ability to maintain professional working relationships with other team members, school personnel, community providers and corporate partners. Strong instructional and trainings skills preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work independently and as a team member. Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.

    Specifics: Reports to the THINK Program Manager. Site varies between Home/Starting Points Office/School. Any telework arrangements will follow company policy. Statewide travel required, including some national and overnight travel. Must hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

    Status: Varies upon hire.

    Salary: $36,500 - $39,000 with annual merit raises
