  • Position Title: Information Technology Systems Lead Engineer Department: Information Technology Job Group: Support Staff, Non-Union Pay Level: Exempt, Grade 12 Reports To: Information Technology Systems Director Summary: Responsible for the support of district computers, network infrastructure, network software, and for the coordination of technological applications in the administrative operations of the district. Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a long-range plan for the application of computers and technology in all district programs, instruction, and administrative work. Assists with maintaining, supporting, and developing the server core and the overall district network design and implementation. Trains, assigns, and/or directs the dayto-day activities and district technology projects of the Network Team. Reports status of projects and regularities to IT Systems Director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Serves as the lead systems engineer and manages the day-to-day responsibilities and special projects associated with the district’s network infrastructure, software, computers, and technological applications. a. Facilitates the IT team’s overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all network services, projects and responsibilities. b. Coordinates with the Network Team to develop, implement, and maintain a disaster recovery plan; provides the daily backup solution for all of the district servers and file storage. c. Leads and assists the Network Team to manage and maintain the district firewall, and internet connectivity. d. Regularly reviews and recommends changes to improve computer and network-operating efficiency. e. Reviews district hardware/software requests and recommends appropriate purchases to the IT Systems Director. f. Provides engineering leadership for district technology initiatives including related purchases and planning. g. Maintains a comprehensive schedule of work to be done on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. h. Oversees the work and training of the Network Team in the management of daily duties 2. Responsible for providing technology services such as, but not limited to: a. Managing network communications (e.g. AD, LDAP, DNS, etc.) b. Maintaining and troubleshooting the district’s wireless infrastructure and software system. c. Installing, configuring, and maintaining network switching (e.g. HP Procurve). d. Managing and maintaining the district virtual server infrastructure. e. Installing, managing, and maintaining district network storage solutions (i.e., Windows file server, SAN, NAS). f. Ensuring proper licensure of software programs, and server licenses. g. Establishing a process to monitor and keep the IT Systems Director informed of evolving technologies and their implications and costs. h. Installing and configuring network software applications as needed. i. Installing and maintaining network monitoring solutions such as Nagios, and NetDisco j. Managing the development and maintenance of management scripts (e.g. VBScript, Powershell, PHP, UNIX shell). k. Creating and automating new user accounts on the network. l. Troubleshooting and assisting district users in problem resolution with technology and computers and supporting walk-in users and help desk (phone support). m. Participating and working with the IT Department’s student independent study program and initiatives as needed. 3. Remains current on career-related subject matter by: a. Attending professional meetings and conferences related to information technology, curriculum integration, and related subject matter. b. Reading professional literature and other sources to maintain a high level of expertise in technology integration. c. Researching emerging technology and integration of such (hardware, software, and peripherals) and recommending applications, enhancements, and solutions. d. Remaining current with District hardware and software in use including, but not limited to NEO, Chrome books, and Microsoft products. e. Attending and participating in all district technology-based meetings as needed. Demonstrated experience leading successful teams is preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: MCSE, RHCE, CCNA, VCP, or equivalent licensures/experience preferred. Language Skills: Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and groups. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with basic to advanced mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction and multiplication to probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Other Skills and Abilities: Experience with network management platforms (e.g. Cacti, Nagios). Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies. Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule.
